Just received 1st infusion of Remicade - now what?

24 hours since my 1st infusion. Did the magic drip work?

Seriously - how many infusions does it take to show some

normalcy (if at all) so I can start tapering off of Asacol & Prednisone?

I know everybody is different. Just looking for some experiences.

Hi SoCal-UC; well everyone has a different story -- some say it takes several infusions before they are feeling a difference. My story is a bit different; I had pretty much immediate effects from it and felt different the next day. The bloody d was gone, and the urgency subsided within a couple of weeks. How are you feeling today?

It's been 24 hours since my first infusion too- yay for us! All I know is my joint pain is completely gone, but I haven't noticed much change otherwise. I had less bathroom trips this morning but the same amount of pain. I was told some people see results in two weeks, some it takes a few infusions. I'm hoping by my next infusion (2/19) I will see great results, but I know I shouldn't get my hopes up too high.

Hey EK, glad to hear that the joint pain is easing up a bit. It's probably the Remi taking effect; I can remember my doc saying that Remi helps with RA plus Ankolysing Spondilitis which goes hand in hand with UC...lucky us!

I noticed a big difference within a few days, although it did take me quite a while to achieve a good remission -- like more than a year. But the each infusion I noticed a bigger difference and after the 2nd infusion I was able to start tapering off the Prednisone. THAT took me almost another year, but without the Remicade I was unable to get off the Pred at all. I think my experience was a lot slower than most people's, but my GI figured as long as I was getting any more relief at all we should keep trying it. I am really glad I did because when it finally kicked in with a good remission last summer, a few months after I got completely off the Prednisone as well, I really felt like I got my life back.

I too noticed marked improvement within a few days - prior to the 1st treatment I was very sick. I have had 4 treatments and am definately improving but still not in remission - much like MEESH I am still working on getting off the Pred - tapered off once, but had to go back and am in the process again.

First infusion worked lie alike a charm. then slipped a bit. Second and third were not impactful, still bad. the 4th was very good and lasted 4-6 weeks. Now she is a mess, awaiting her next infusion, but it was great while it lasted!
