Globs of Blood.

Whats up down there?! My gut just isnt happy and its making me worried.

So, Thank G-d, i've been in remission since being diagnosed 2 years ago. Asacol was my maintenance wonder drug. (Helped by a jolt of Prednisone & 6MP in the beginning). Had a small possible flare and doctor rx'd Cortifoam. I did procrastinate filling it and abt 2 months later began using it. Just finished 3 weeks of it and I'm seeing the most sinister looking things. My hearts drops to my toes when I see the mucus and blood. Hope I'm not being too graphic, but I know you can relate..... I'm seeing globs (for no better word) of mucus/blood that float and bright red blood around the D and at the end. 'm also experienceing a little urgency which isn't typical of remission and also I hear and feel this absurd gurgling which I know is coming form the gut. It's like small 'pops' of gas or some weird reaction happening. It can go on for 20 minutes to an entire eveing....

I've been in denial abt the small amounts of mucus and possibly blood I've been seeing for a few weeks now. But now, there 'ain't no denying it!

I made an appointment to see the Dr. tomorrow.

Is this a really bad sign or just a bad sign? I mean does anyone see blood while in remission or does it signify a flare up?

 

Thanks for telling me that. Now I'm nervous abt hearing if it's a real flare (though deep down, I know it prob is) I'm also calmer knowing that it'll finally get attended to.

Bright red blood "at the end" could mean hemhorroids-- they can pop up internally when you're having multiple bms or straining. It's good that you're going to see the doc tomorrow. If Cortifoam isn't working for you, it may be that you've got inflammation in the sigmoid or descending colon. That makes for more gurgling. My left colon became very overactive in the fall after I went on generic Colazal; there was a whole lotta rumbling going on that really bugged me. It did quiet down again when I resumed taking original Colazal in December. Probably you need a change in meds. Hi all,
Saw the dr. today. He got a new Colonoscope and was excited to use it! Goodness, he did 40 cm. without anethesia I dont know if it's normal, though it was fine for me until he went past 30, then it got uncomfortable and painful. Took some biopsies to test for "Residual Inflammation" whatever that means. He showed me through the scope what parts were good and what parts were red and 'angry'. I'm very curious about body stuff/medecine so I found it fascinating!
As I suspected, it's a real flare, though he didn't think it was very serious.
I've been on Asacol and just finished Cortifoam (procrastinated filling the Rx and taking it for 3 months, dont ask)
He prescribed Lialda. Just Lialda. 2 tabs in the morning. He says that it's more effective than Asacol because it has two kinds of release in the lower colon, whereas Asacol releases in the small intestines.
I don't know if it's the best medecine for me. I expected something stronger to help clear up the flare.....
THe funny thing is, last year, I went to a conference/session with some top NY doctors (Daniel Present & Arthur Kornbluth & some others). I was turned off when I read that it was sponsored by a bunch of drug companies. See the bottom of this homepage - http://www.myibd.org/index.html .
The session was a bunch of "talk", nothing new, no new "Advances" as it was billed. The new thing was a press release in the packet for Lialda. When I mentioned it to my dr., last year, he hadnt even heard of it yet...... now, after some drug reps probably visited him, he prescribes it. whatever.
I'm just praying it works!
