when does moon-face go away?

I know it sounds self-centered and shallow, but I am so freaked out about my face since I started the Pred 4 wks ago. I'm so self-conscious about it! I am tapering and down to 15mg right now, dropping 5mg/week.. When does the moon-face start to subside?? Does it take long?

My job requires me to do presentations to sometimes large groups at F500 corporations. It's bad enough that I have to worry about my flares, but at least that nobody could "see." Now I have to be self consicious about how I look too! I have a large presentation next week that I'm really nervous about. It's at 12pm, which is usually about the time of day that I start feeling better. I already know that I won't eat anything the day of the presentation. :(

For me 15mg was always the magic number for side effects to begin fading, 10mg for sure. I usually stick to low sodium foods and it seems to help a bit. Everyone might be different though.

Moon face is the worst. But since you haven't been on prednisone very long it will likely go away quicker than for someone who's been on it long-term. Mine might have went down a little as I was tapering down to 10 and 5 mg but it took me being off of it for a couple of months for it to go away. However, I was on it for a long time. I can second the sodium comment. Watch the salt and that will make a big difference. Also, I found wearing my hair down helped.

It really is different for everyone. Rest assure you'll be moonfaced for your next presentation. But as long as your not spending part of your presentation in the bathroom, consider yourself 1 up and just try to be patient. It will subside.

Sometimes it doesn't go away until well after you've weened off the pred. I've also had times when I hardly had a moonface.

Picture your audience with moonfaces, instead of in there underwear!   

Try not to eat everything in your site and good luck.

I think I have noticed a slight difference in it going down, not sure if it's wishfull thinking or maybe I am getting used to my moonface. I have heard that it can start to go down around 10mg and mostly I hear that it goes away within 3 mos of coming off of it.

I hope mine goes away b/c I will be on 5-10mg for the next year.

No it is not vain. We feel bad enough without adding this into the mix. Anyone who has had moonface understands. In some ways we can hide what we go through but moonface is not hideable.

Try to really cut down on your salt.

Ugh, moonface is the worst, I'm so sorry!!  For me, it does not go away completely until I'm off Pred and then however long I was on it, is how long it takes for it to go away.  So if I'm on it for 2 months, it takes a good 2 months for my face to get back to normal. 

The part I don't understand is that you hear of so many people on Pred but I never see anyone out in the real world with moonface except ME!

hahaha the reason you dont see other people with moonface besides yourself is because you're the only one that knows the pred did that to your face... how are you supposed to know that that persons face isnt SUPPOSED to be round lol

I have been on Pred for about 8 months now and we just started weening me off about a month and a half ago. Im now down to 5mg once a day. How long will it take for the moonface and the hunger to go away. I am also going to have Cardiac Cath done around March 5th will this effect the steroids use? Will it make the process go quicker when I'm in the hospital for a few days?
