I dont' know what is going on.  Last Wednesday my Dr. put me on 20mg of prednisone.  I also take asacol 3 tabs 3x daily and Rowasa nightly.

Starting Monday I had some pain in my lower neck and shoulders.  I felt plain crummy and all I wanted to do was sleep.  Yesterday I was better but last night I got slammed!  My entire body hurts..not aches...hurts.  I take a deep breath and it hurts all the way through.  My sinuses are clogged and my throat hurts to swallow.  I don't think I have ever felt this bad.  I also have blisters in the bottom of my mouth. 

I don't know if this is an illness I have picked up or if it could be an allergice reaction to the prednisone or combination of the drugs I"m on.  Anyone have a clue???

Sounds like the bug that has been going around; but really if you feel it could be an allergic reaction to one of your meds don't hesitate in calling the doc...immediately!

yes it does. I have never had this kind of body pain before. I have a doctors appointment this afternoon. I have been sick since January 1st. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired.

So, if the family doctor prescribes antibiotics how is this going to affect the UC? Is there anything I should do to avoid the problems with antibiotics and UC? Seems like we may solve one issue but cause problems somewhere else.

I leave for aruba in 30 days. I just want to feel good. My 20th anniversary is next Thursday. I WANT TO FEEL GOOD! Is that to much to ask??

Do you think that by desperately wishing to be better for your trip actually is making you feel worse Uc wise? You have only been diagnosed in February right? Sometimes just knowing that this is not an overnight heal can take the expectancy down a notch. I know patience isn't your strong suit but you have to remember that it can take a long time to heal an inflammed ulcerated colon or rectum. Is it too much to ask to feel better? No but you have to be realistic when it comes to Uc. I'm sorry if that sounds harsh, that is not my intention. It is just something I have learned from dealing with this for so long.

Regarding the body pains, this can be from so many things such as having the flu to having an adverse reaction to medications. If you have to be placed on antibiotics, remember to stay away from the 'cilians and 'cyclines. This can aggravate Uc. I have had good luck with the Zpack in the past. I hope you feel better soon and the doctor can get to the bottom of these pains for you.

I have to agree with Red_34....this is a lifelong disease with plenty of ups and downs. I have been sick with it for 2 years now and still not right (and i know there are people who have had it much longer who still feel the way i do too). Don't dwell on it too much, let your body take time to adjust to the medications and just keep in touch with your doctor so he can help you. it sounds more like a bug you have instead of from the medications.

Thanks Red and Erin. Didn't take it harshly at all. Sometimes that is all that gets through to me. My biggest complaint is not being able to enjoy my daughter. Not having the energy to play with her. I think I have probably picked up a bug. We will see what the Dr. says this afternoon.

I cannot tolerate Prednisolone by mouth and have 10 ten known side affects -- at one time I ended up in A & E with the affects. These included -- debilitating aching of the large muscles, confusion, breathlessness, chronic indigestion/ heartburn, overactivity then fatique, sleeplessness, the usual bloated face, flu-type symptoms etc -- so yes do contact the GP or pharmacist and make these symptoms known

Oh, I hope you didn't read the last post! I believe knowing all the effects will trigger the power of suggestion, and you'll start feeling them.

Sounds like you got a bad case of the flu, it will make your body Hurt. Hopefully that means you'll get over it in time for your vacation -- I think there are new meds that help that happen faster you might look into. You might still be a little wiped for your vacation but hopefully you'll make it and have a great time!

Just got back from the family doctor. Sinus infection and repiratory infection. I guess it is running rampid around here right now. So, on top of the meds for UC I am now also on a z-pack and mucinex. I feel like a walking pharmacy. Anyone get to be best friends with your pharmacist. I think I've seen mine more this week than I've seen my own husband. LOL

Time to hold down the couch for the rest of the night.

lol, I totally understand. Take care and hope you are feeling better soon...a little chicken soup or peppermint tea perhaps while you curl up on that couch?

Risan, you mentioned that you have little to no energy. I can definately relate because I also have 2 children. My son was 4 when I had my daughter and I can honestly say that even though he was so little he helped me tremendously with his sister. I know there has been plenty of times when he had to give her something to eat because I couldn't get off the toilet. But the energy zap was definately the hardest. Have you ever had your B12 and iron levels checked? If your B12 is fine, you can still take a B12 supplement because excess is eliminated thru the urine. I have had to take B12 supplements in the past and they helped me immensely. B12 will give you natural energy.

It could be a bug. I got a stomach bug, the stomach thing went away fast, but I just had no energy. Took me 4-6 days to get over it. It totally sucks. My intestinal tract didn't get over it until over a week later. Hope you feel better.

This stuff's going around. My husband and I both had upper respiratory and stomach bugs in December. Hang in there and be sure to follow up your antibiotics with high doses of probiotics.

Glad to hear (in a way) it was something other than your meds/uc that was getting you feeling that way.  Hopefully the new meds will take care of this quickly for you!  I know what you mean about no energy, it is very difficult, especially if you have children.  How old is your daughter?  On another note, definitely don't think that the drug they gave you is the only one that may work.  I have been through several different meds to try and get it under control.  Unfortunately Prednisone was the only thing to get me out of the flare, but the Imuran is helping keep it under control AND get off the pred...You will find something that will help you get by :)

     You probably caught the bug because Prednisone suppresses your immune system and it doesn't take much to "catch" something while taking the drug.  I try to stay away from anyone who I know is ill with a contagious illness.  Try not to stress too much.  It sounds like you are nervous that you may be ill for your trip.  I find that just by stressing about an event brings on symptoms.  Did your doctor say anything about Flagyl while taking the antibiotic?  My GI doctor always has me take that along with Cipro.  He said that it keeps the "good bacteria" in the gut.  I have no idea.

     How's this for an anniversary event:  last year my hubby had to take me to the ER on our 39th wedding anniversary!  That also was the day our grandson made First Holy Communion...which I missed cry .
