today i  went back to my gastro because my proctitis is really bad and the cortisteroid enemas were not doing anything, i have been in alot of pain and alot of bowel movements with no stool just blood and mucous he put me back on the canasa's suppositories, i also told him i am in alot of pain and can not sit anymore, i might have a fissure or hemroid, he never even examined me..should i get a second opinion i feel he should of at least looked, how many of you have switched doctors and have gotten better,,im so tired of this and not feeling well, maybe he's missing something..he just doesnt seem alarmed and im in alot of discomfort..thanks for listening

If you are not happy with your current GI then yes by all means, seek another opinion. This is your life and your body; you have to do what is right by you.

red_34 i read that you also were unable to tolerate asacol, rowasa and canasa, what symptoms did you have from them and what did you finally find to work, cause i think thats my problem and he just doesnt listen when i tell him, he keeps telling me to take them and i think they are not working

I was on Asacol for 12 years when my body decided it didn't like them anymore. I was getting severe abdominal pains, increased D, and an overall flu like feeling. But those symptoms didn't start until I was already off the Asacol and trying to use Rowasa. My GI switched me from Asacol to Colazal before that because my flare wasn't settling down so he thought he would try a different medication. Asacol sometimes doesn't do much for the left side of the colon on down and Colazal is basically designed for the left side on down. He kept persisting that I try the Rowasa but after the 3rd attempt with the above mentioned symptoms I said enough is enough and I told him that just don't work and they were making me worse.

I think doctors tend to think that one medication is going to work for everyone. Or maybe they are just hoping.

But after I switched to Colazal I felt a ton better until my daughter gave me a stomach virus and that threw me into a tailspin of flares which forced me onto 6mp which is an immune suppresor.

How long have you been using the cortisteroid enemas nymom? I have luck with cortifoam, it's the only rectal med that works for me, but of course the worse the disease activity the longer it will take to heal.

Definitely consider a change of doctor....but, if your symptoms persist over another week or you get worse, go see your doc again and request him to do a look-see.

Have you taken a look yourself?? You can squat over a mirror and see if you have anything external happening. If so, let him know and hopefully he will prescribe you something to help....I personally prefer Proctocedyl ointment for external hemmies and fissures....
