6MP once on have you been able to get back to Anti-Inflam. Level Drugs?

Since I bet this is where I'm going (though I'm crossing my fingers) next, I was wondering if anybody been able to get off them and be fine on Anti-Inflam level drugs? I'd rather not be on it too long.

I have been on azathioprine 18months,and I'll be very interested in peoples responses,my GI made it clear he would have me stay on it indefinatly,as long as my bloods are ok,and in my case I still have not acheived full remission, he says he has had patients on it 8 years or longer,and people,that have come off it and had to go back on,he seems totally unconcerned about,possible side effects,and says only that in his experience when people come off azathriopine the UC ussually flares up much worse than before,which in my case would mean surgery

My son's doctor told him to wean himself off of the 6MP since he is doing Remicade now, and it seems to be helping. I guess we shall see if when he gets off it, what happens. Does anyone here on Remicade still
take the 6MP too? Since one of the side affects of 6MP is diahhrea and loss of appetite, my son is hoping that part will improve.

Yes I think that is the only time my GI would be ok with me coming off azathiopine,if I try remicade,but that would only be if I thought I was getting no benefit at all from the aza,and I think that I've had alot less bleeding since I've been on it,all the other things like you say the diahrea etc,I don't know if it is the UC all the drugs I've had,or maybe I'm thinking I could have gone on t o develop IBS as well.
