In the past 2 weeks ive developed fairly bad joint pain. Is this normal? Is there any  meds you can take to help relieve this?? I have a 5 year old and 7 month old and finding its hard to keep up with them lately. Ive tried to just take tylenol and it hasn't worked at all.

Sorry to hear about your joint pains.

Have you been on Pred, because at times the joint pain may also be related to one of the side effects of Pred. In any case quite a few of UC patient do have joint pains. Are you taking proper diet. I mean to say all proteins, vitamins, etc. As you have just developed crohns, I don't think it would be related to that. You may kindly show it to the doctor. May be it is just because of over exertion or the likes.

I haven't been on pred at all. I don't have Crohns...i was misdiagnosed at first. They called in Crohns but after I went to a new GI he said it was definately UC instead. I was only taking prenatal vitamins but I have been reading alot about probiotics and fish oil and stuff other people use on this site so Im going to ask my GI tommorrow about taking those.

Well probiotics is very good. Infact I was myself not aware much about probiotics till I got reliable and rich information on the same on this forum from supportive people. I have started taking Probiotics and so have my sister and brother. They also have UC and feel that Probiotic Milk is really helpful.

I am not aware about fish oil, as have never tried. But lots of people on this board are taking it and have high words of appreciation for its benefits. I feel the joint pain may not be related to UC at this stage, unless you are bleeding (BM) a number of times. I will check if the same is related to one of the side effects (if any) of the medicines you are taking.

I have checked up and have found that in some cases the joint and back pains are related to Asacol. From the information provided by you, I understand that you are on Asacol. If you are not allergic to bee's or their by-products, you can start using Bee Propolis. This is a natural anti-inflammatory and anti-biotic. I used to take this a few years back and it really helped me. I am actually thinking of starting it again. Fish oil is also good for joint pain. Where is the joint pain? You should bring up the joint pain to the doctor because you can have some arthritis issues popping up. Also, you can use an OTC joint pain cream. I found that Australian Dream found at Walgreens works really well in helping with joint pain - plus it doesn't smell like the other stuff.

Joint pain is one of my UC symptoms. And it's never the same area either (it's affected both shoulders, ribs, wrist, etc). My dr and I are currently trying to adjust my remicade schedule bacause I seem to have issues when I have a few weeks left to go before my next infusion. Joint pain is one of these issues. He has given me Darvocet in the past, and this last time since it was pretty severe, he gave me Tylenol 3. I'm hoping we'll change the remicade to be every 6 weeks to avoid these issues altogether, but yeah, in the meantime, I completely understand your pain.

Ever tried treating it naturally? Try to search for natural ways in treating joints pain. We all know how good and safe it is to try natural treatments first before trying any medicines. Hence, if the symptoms still persist as sometimes it does, it would be better to consult experts and doctors for some advices on how to treat that.
