I was just diagnosed in march with ulcerative colitis and doctors say i have a severe case of UC! This has been the worst for me I have severe abdominal crampss every single day!!... only thing that seems to help is my prednisone. I take methotraxAte once a week, cortifoam twice a day, remicade every 8 weeks and 80m mg of prednisone a daay and nothign seems to help much :(. does anyone have uc this bad ?? I feel like im in labor at some times how can it be soo badd ??I just dont understand it. I also had 3 bags of blood infused into me yesterday whatt paiinn i have today its like if my prednisone dont work anymore :(

Welcome to Healing Well. I am sure you would find great people out here, who are ready to help you out with their suggestions.

In so far as cramps are concerned, are they on left side of your abdomen? I have been a severe case of UC. Please consult your doctor for an ultrasound, to rule out any other problem.

You may try fresh turmeric for your cramps. It really helps. I used to have cramps, and the only thing which helped me was turmeric. Are you taking any antiacidity medicine. Normally the doctors do give Ocid or Pantocid alongwith Pred, as Pred causes a little gas and acidity in some cases.

Do you mind if I ask how long you've been experiencing symptoms? Did your condition suddenly worsen in March, or is that when it first arose?

My condition only started in marchh and ive been feeling horrible for about 3 weeks now i was getting better when i started remicade then the doctor started taking me off pred slowly and it got worst and now it dosnt seem to be getting better. I can tolerate the diarea and everything the only thing i can't seem to tolerate is the abdominal pain. sometimes its as bad as labor . And for as the pain its just like period cramps but 1000x worst id say :(

I totally understand how you feel newmom2008. My husband and I both have UC and it's not the going to the bathroom a 100 times a day, or the diahhrea, but it's the cramping that just kills us both. The only thing that really works for us like you said is prednisone. I hate it, but it works. My GI doc also put me on sulfasalizine which helped significantly improve my UC. Made it more tolerable if you will. I know exactly how you're feeling though, there have been times were I could barely walk the cramping was so bad. All I know is prednisone. My husband has been on just about everything you can think of these last 2 years, and nothing has really helped him either. He also can't be on prednisone very long as he starts to develope muscular myopathy(sp) from it. So please let me know if you find anything that helps. I was diagnosed last May 2008 but had symptoms and blood starting in Sept of 2007. I had a major flare in December and was admitted to the hospital for a few days. I have a high pain tolerance but it got so bad that my entire stomache was sore and swollen from contractions from the flare. My ENTIRE stomache hurt and every cramp (every 10 to 15 min. or so) came with a severe pain across my entire mid section. If you are feeling like this then my suggestion is to go to the hospital!! I have been in a flare since but have never been anywhere close to that pain since. I do hope you feel better soon!
