and what it does to your immune system, is anyone on it concerned about this flu they are talking about?

 Much as I detest it, I am almost sick enough to finally ask to be put on it(no blood, but diarrea, nausea, and stomach pains with no let up) but I do worry if this is the time to be put on a med that leaves me wide open for other illnesses.

I'm 64 years old, so no spring chicken to begin with.  :)

Anyone on Pred concerned at all?

I am on 20 mg of prednisone....I am a little concerned about it because I work at a dr office and also have 2 young kids. I try not to worry about it and go with the flow on things. I just practice good hygiene and take care of myself as best as I can....what more can ya do?

Apparently the people who are most likely to get swine flu are young healthy people. So many having a pre-exiting condition could be a good thing

     I'm on 6MP and my last white count was only 2.9, so not many antibodies to fight off much of anything.  My hubby had a bad sinus and upper respiratory infection from Sunday a week ago  and is just starting to feel better.  Since our family doctor just poo pooed it as "allergies", I gave him some Cipro last Friday and he took it for five days.  He only started to feel better after being on the Cipro about three days.  His sinuses cleared up.  I usually don't do this, but thought it terrible that the doctor didn't even see him!  We have gone to this physician for over 20 yrs and unfortunately, he is getting ready to retire and cut his hours down drastically.  He formed a group which includes DO's, physician assistants and two nurse practioners.  I think it's time we switched doctors, but that is another story.  Anyway, I have slept in a different bedroom to try to avoid getting ill, wash my hands and spray Lysol but yesterday I started with a scratchy throat.  I am not worried about that Swine Flu though.

     By the way, I am 62, no spring chicken either and I also have ulcerative proctitis but have been in remission for six months.

Somewhat concerned but just trying to also practice good hygiene and avoid people who seem sick.

I am on 20 mg. prednisone right now and 6MP.  I am 68 (really no spring chicken).  I will not stay home or get upset - just do what I can! Listening for advice from health officials.

I'd worry about it a little more if I were in immediate contact with a person that had it. Think I'd probably worry more about my little boy coming down with something like that than me though.

I will fight tooth and nail not to take Pred (except Pred-Forte eye drops for uvitis).  I have every side-effect in the book from it--even cataracts!  The worst is the rise in blood sugar to the point of having to go on insulin.  I have been very fortunate and not had a flare since sticking to my natural foods regimen.  I am convinced that my vegetarian (some fish) diet has helped.  Also, probiotics, fish oil, green food, TURMERIC, etc.  I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and now I have no pain whatsoever.  Next step--weaning off Asacole.  Scary!
