That's what I was thinking. I still remember when my Mom came to get me out of first grade because I had pink eye. As a child, I had no idea what was wrong - I felt okay - and felt like I was getting a free day off from school!

There is a case now here in a suburb just outside the city where I live, same county. And one in Nashville at a private school that is tied in to a private school here with the same name, and there are supposedly more sick with a flu type illness at that same school. The case here is in a private school also. It has been shut down for a week. I have enough issues already, I don't need that. Everyone make sure you wash your hands regularly. I also use the hand sanitizer also, and every day.

So far we've had two cases here in MI and they are both not that far from me. But so far no schools have been closed down. I remember when we had a kid in my daughters junior high have a case of MRSA and all the kids got a free day so the schools could disinfect. I just hope they don't close down any of my kids schools because that would mean they would be home with ME!

I can't believe how much everyone is freaking out about this. Yeah I know most of us have compromised immune systems and probably should worry more than the general population, but there have been 109 cases in the us and 1 death. That's less than a one percent death rate. There are scientists now saying this may be a more mild strain than the normal flu that people get every year. Sure its something we need to monitor, but I think given the evidence so far the media has really over-hyped this thing. Guess it sells papers though.

     I agree with Jeffery....there is more of a chance of getting killed in a traffic accident than dying of this Swine Flu and yet we all got out right?

Dr-A, I see Dr. Daniel Griffin with the Gastroenterology Center of the Midsouth. I am actually here in Memphis but my daughter-in-law actually lives in Clarksville and I was watching the local news today and saw the news about the possible case here in Memphis and heard about the case in Nashville this morning. The Harding Academy there in Nashville is supposedly tied in to the Harding Academy here in Memphis.

I only worry because of the immunosuppresants. The last time I took prednisone (4 years ago), I got bronchitis, strep throat, a severe sinus infection and finally what was called a "life threatening" case of bi-lateral pneumonia that landed me in the hospital for a whole week and recovering for 3 months! I just started Remicade and I'm on prednisone and I don't want to take any chances! I'm not normally nervous about viruses/illnesses, but given my current condition and the fact that I've been hospitalized twice in the last month, I am a little freaked out!

There have been a couple dozen swine-flu cases in my city, but 99% have occurred among pupils in two widely-separated parochial schools who reportedly traveled to Mexico during spring break. I don't think people are worried here because winter is over & viral bugs seem to spread faster then when most everyone is cooped up inside avoiding frigid weather. The main thing we UCers have to do is to keep ourselves hydrated at all times, whether we feel thirsty or not. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC; presently recovering from March flare in sigmoid colon)

I worry a little because I have not felt well the past 4 weeks, my liver enzymes have been elevated but are normal now, my FANA test came back positive which is abnormal, which is indicative of a autoimmune disorder, which UC is so that might be the reason itself, my elbow and knee joints have been causing me a good deal of inflammation on and off for a while now. I have had a UTI for a month now, despite 2 rounds of antibiotics. So I feel cruddy already, don't need any other problems.
