Minor vent! For once NOT Uc related! LOL

So it started with my daughter.  She got a cold about 6 weeks ago, got better and then got it again.  She then started complaining of painful lumps under her jaw bone area so I took her to the doctors where she said her lymph nodes were enlarged.  The doc put her on a course of antibiotics and saw her again in a week.  The lump didn't go down so she went in for an ultrasound.  Found out that her lymph node on the left side was 2cms which is rather large for that area.  So she was then referred to an ENT.  The ENT we saw yesterday said that it was severe allergies because the enlarged lymph nodes had decreased in size and she had no other large lymph nodes on her body.  So she was placed on Allegra and Singulair.

Ok so then in between my daughters doctor visits, my husband gets his bad eye infection.  Where he was referred out to an opthmalogist.  He was in severe pain from this because it was BAD!  And then my son got sick and started running a fever of 101.5.  So I had to take HIM to the doctors where she said it was a virus.  But I had to be sure because he has asthma and it didn't want this virus to set off his breathing any.

So then yesterday I get a call from my daughter to come get her in school because she was feeling extremely weak and nauseas.  So she starts to describe her symptoms and it sounds like she has a UTI.  It hurt after she urinated.  So I made another doc appt for her today.  She also told me yesterday that she saw blood in her urine.  I took her to the doc where she ran a urinalysis and lo and behold no infection!  The doc thinks she might have a kidney stone.  My daughter is only 13 years old.  She has no other pain other then after she urinates so it might be a small stone.  I have to take her in on Tuesday for a CT scan to see if it IS a stone.  If no stone shows she is going to be referred out to a Urologist.  After the urinalysis today, the doc said she had a significant amount of blood in her urine.

Now mind you, in all this time I have been doing great!  No sickness and not Uc issues.  So PLEASE keep your fingers crossed for me that NOTHING happens and all this "trauma" doesn't set me into a flare! mad

WOW! What a time! Stay strong, you will get through this. When it rains it pours. I will be praying for your families health.

Sheesh Sherry, when you or your family gets sick...no fooling around there! LOL!

I feel for you all, for dealing with oneself takes a lot of effort, but it's good you're doing well so that you can deal with everyone else.

I hope that your daughter's bleeding cause is found....I've had one bladder infection that was with bleeding and horrific pain, I can only imagine her agony if it's a kidney stone. Yikes!

I also hope your husband's eye infection and your son's virus is over with quickly. Any respiratory viruses affect my asthma...totally sucks.

Keep us posted.....and please keep well considering the calm after the storm is when we sometimes notice our symptoms.

Well actually my son and husband are fine now. It's my daughter that I am the most worried about now. I've had alot of UTI's (including 2 very painful kidney infections) before so I definately understand her pain. For now she is to drink large quantities of water to help pass the stone - if that is what it is. My best friend suffers from kidney stones as well as my SIL. I watch them have a hard time of it and I am hoping that my daughter never gets a large one!

My daughter's best friend's bother recently had to get one of his eyes removed. I feel really sorry for him. Both he and my daughter's best friend have bad eyes due to a rare eye disorder inherited from their dad's side of the family.

I had a 1cm kidney stone and never knew it or had pain. I went for my yearly OBGYN appt. and he said, "there's blood in your urine". I thought "ok so"? The x-ray showed the stone. After I had the stone blasted, it was very painful to pass the fragments. My doctor told me not to drink large amounts of water to pass the stone because it would irritate the stone. After passing everything, he said to try to drink more water during the day and drink lemonaid. Real lemonaid, not the Country Time type stuff. At least you are feeling good now and it's almost time for summer vacation.

Natural cranberry juice (not the "cocktail") is supposed to be very helpful for UT problems. Here's hoping your daughter does not have any stones! / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Why didn't the doctor pay more attention to other possibilities of why that lymph node might be enlarged, if it wasn't allergies...that's what I would wonder about for your daughter.

As for you, you know what's amazing, some people get most calm when they are facing a situation where they need to push themselves into action to protect the ones they love...and others buckle under pressure. You seem to be one of the people that rise to the challenge...and if it sets you back a little, then that's just your body asking you to breathe and step back. Good luck and I have faith that there won't be an occasion you cannot rise to.

Our family doctor told her to drink large amounts of water because the stone is probably small and with the increase of fluids it will make her kidneys work to expel the stone. I have a friend that just recommended the real lemonade as a prevention. But I don't think I can get my daughter to drink it. She's not the big on lemons. Occasionally maybe. The same for cranberry juice. I have used this on occasion when I thought a UTI was coming on and it works like a charm - at least for me it did.

Fighting chance, what other possibilities could it be for the enlarged lymph nodes? She has had blood tests and it showed no abnormalities - she even had the test for Mono (past and present). The ENT did mention that if her lymph node didn't decrease in size like it did or if she had other enlarged nodes that he would do a biospy to rule out lymphoma. But because they are going down and because she didn't have any other enlarged nodes he wants to see if it's allergies first. Which makes sense because she DOES have severe allergies. I may even take her in for allergy testing to find out what she is allergic to. But what other possibility could it be?

Oh wow Sherry! Sounds like everyone is keeping you busy! I had a UTI a couple of weeks ago and oh was it ever painful. Hope everyone is feeling better...and you stay healthy! nono   It's a nice long weekend for you to enjoy! ;-)

I just started buying the "Simply Lemonaid" in the cold section at the grocery store. You can also get the lemonaid from concentrate in the freezer section that you mix with water. I don't like cranberry juice either so I buy cran-apple 100% fruit juice. Maybe she would like that better. I also have to drink it COLD only.

Cranberry is also available in capsules, which some members here have reported on favorably. Someone I know whose hubby is a middle-aged internist told me that HE takes these capsules because he has had UT problems in the past but doesn't tolerate c'berry juice well. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

It turned out that it was a UTI afterall and the doc put her on Microbid twice a day for 3 days. Her doc sent her urine out to the lab and I guess they have a more sensitive test then what the docs office has. So we are sort of relieved. :)

Crap! Well so much for dodging the bullet. Uc wise, I'm still doing ok. I did have blood this morning on my stool but I DO have hemmies. I feel fine Uc wise. BUT I was up all night coughing! My son told me that is how he felt when he was sick so I guess he wanted to share his love and give his virus to me. Other then the coughing, I actually feel pretty good.

As anyone else ever have where they feel like their getting sick and then the next day they feel perfectly fine? I've had this happen a few times in the past and I hope it's going to be the same this time around.
