you know you have UC when:
A family member has diahrea for one day and says to you "Now I know how you feel."
That's my boyfriend's mom. She was taking NSAIDs and got microscopic colitis. A cause of microscopic colitis is taking NSAIDs. Of course, her doctors never mentioned that to her. Her symptoms are severe diarrhea. No real urgency. No bleeding.
After the diagnosis, she announces that she has colitis just like me, at which point, I tell her about
the times in which I didn't make it to the toilet and about
how I was passing tons of blood clots.
At dinner that evening, she takes out all her medications (she has a lot of them) and tells me that she is going to be taking Asacol for the rest of her life for her colitis. She tells me this when she is eating prune cake and ice cream.
I tell her that I'm medication free and tell her about
probiotics. At which point, she asks why she needs to take probiotics when she is already taking antibiotics. When I tell her about
probiotics, she angerly replies that she isn't going to take anything without the advise of her doctor.
That was a couple of months ago. The last time I visited, she was eating
cookies and chocolate, taking Asacol, and not taking probiotics.
It's very frustration to sit by and watch. But she will just get upset if I try to say anything.
