Effexor Users - Please Suggest

All,

My GI asked me to take Effexor 75mg once a day for Anxiety and Tension..

Do we need to take this medication daily or as needed?

How do you guys generally use this medication? Daily or Occasionally?

What are the initial side effects that you noticed.

I'm noticing some kind of Drowsyness and Sleepy feeling after i started this 3 days back. Is it common?

Can you please answer my questions?

This medicine has helped me immensely with my Generalized Anxiety Disorder- I've taken it for several years, am now on 75 mg daily, XR extended release, take it every morning- it's not a drug you can take occasionally, you have to take it daily and it will take a while to start working, if it does work for you.

The big side effects come with getting OFF the drug, so make sure to do it slowly and carefully and with a doctor's orders. Good luck!

I've been on Effexor XR for not quite 2 weeks. In the beginning my anxiety was increased a bit, I felt like I had too much coffee. I had a couple really vivid dreams the first week. I feel a little drowsy at times, I take it after dinner. In the past week I have felt a dramatic difference, I feel like my old happy self again. I definitely recommend it.

Did you noticed any change in Bowel Movements or Diarrhea kind of thing?
Is this medication going to effect our UC?

It has affected my UC in a positive way. It has helped with my BM's. One of the side effects is constipation - not a bad thing for most of us with UC! I was also having random stomach pains and those subsided after I started taking effexor.

I hope you find success with effexor. I tried other SSRI's and they all gave me D and made me feel strange. So far with effexor I haven't had any D and I feel happy and normal, just less anxious. tongue

Is there any possibility of Anti Anxiety medicines like Effexor triggering a UC flareup?

It is definitely NOT a drug you take occasionally. Take it every single day like the dr prescribes. Anti-depressants are really not something you mess with.
I started taking it in October for GAD and a little OCD. I felt a little weird for the first couple weeks until my body adjust but after that I was a completely different person. My grades improved, I wasn't as irritable etc. For the first like 2 or 3 months I had super weird d. I wasn't a flare because I can tell the difference between flare d and d caused by other things. After a while though it disappeared. I've been in remission 3 years and the effexor actually helped my bowels. I have IBS so calming my overactive brain helped my IBS d.
I hope it works as well for you as well as it did for me :)
