My emotions are wrecked, GI Doc thinks IBS, I have been diagnosed with IBS since high school and NO symptoms like this. My colonoscopy is June 5 so only 1 week until I know for sure, I am scared and mad at the same time. Maybe I am just being a baby but I need to vent. I have felt bad for so long and though for sure I'd feel better after this Dr visit with the specialist, and I get nothing but a bill for $200.

Also just found out that my husband's new job will not be enough that I can quit working, so that upsets me too as I wanted to start graduate school in Fall 2010 and save for a house. I am just frustrated and feeling down right now, forgive me.

Also not thrilled about the golytely, it scares me. Is there anything I can mix it with to make it not take like what it will be producing in the toilet?

Vent away, Sorry things are not going your way. Can you do graduate school and work too? Seems lots of people do, but it all depends on many things, I know.
Houses are not always such great investment these days, so can you just rent a nice house you like? Try not to feel bad about that now.

Sounds like it's time to spend the $200 and know what is going on. I'm not familiar with the g prep, but if it's a mix, here's my advice: be sure you use two things because you'll get tired of just one flavor (I like Propel, and Vitamin water lemonade), and make sure it is really cold. (This doesn't make sense if it's not a mix).

You haven't felt bad for that long, believe me. All will be OK, there is much that can be done to make you feel better.

I guess in the long scheme of things 14 months is not that long, but it seems like forever. Oh I spent the $200 that is just the visit today, no clue what the colonoscopy will cost me.
The golytely is a powder they said add water, but the Dr, nurse, and pharmacist told me it was nasty.

Now is a great time to invest in real estate so if you have your heart set on purchasing a home pursue that dream!

I did golytely and honestly didn't think it was that bad. I mixed in first thing in the morning and stuck it in the fridge so it would be ice cold. I tried some plain, it it basically just tasted like salty water. To make it more palatable, I added Country Time lemonade mix (a big spoonful) to each glass. I didn't use the flavor packets that came with it because they had artificial sweetners and those irritate my stomach.

You could say I feel the same way... been crying for days now but I really think its the prednisone bc I never cried before.  Normally I am very much a suck it up and deal with it person.  

I was on vacation in December 2008 and as soon as I came home I've been sick ever since.  I have colitis but they dont know why even after 2 colonoscopies, 2 CT scans, 2 ER visits and 2 gastroenterologists.  I had horrible side affects from every drug they gave me including prednisone, which had severe side affects: cant walk, severe joint pain, stomach pain and to top it off I'm crazy now.  They gave me prednisone bc they don't know what else to do.   So several thousand dollars later and I feel worse with no diagnosis. 

Anyway just wanted to vent with you.  I feel your pain.

about the drink... I found it best to refrigerate, i didnt add all the water, bc you will have to drink it all, fill it up almost to the line, and chug it as fast as you can.  I never added anything else just used the flavoring they had.

Jenn C...Regarding the Gotlyely....You have to mix it the night before the clean-out and put it in the refrigerator.
Personally, it's better without a flavour....but I do use a straw, so I don't taste anything or burp up any taste at all. I did use flavour in a few of the glasses the first time...ugh..never again.

You can eat a light breakfast and lunch the day of the clean-out (which is one reason I like using it. Start it at 5:00 at the latest in the evening.

I've done 6 purges with the gallon prep....one with fleet, and I'll take the gallon prep over anything else.

Pour your first glass 15 minutes before you drink it, use a straw and put it at the back of your mouth and drink it all. Pour the next glass, set the timer for 15 minutes...until you're at the end of the gallon.

To be bad...I always pour out the last glass...

Anyway, that's how it works for me...

It's very understandable that you're having an overload of emotions considering your life situation. It's scary especially when your health is involved. It's uncertain when the answers don't match what you're going through.

I'm curious what symptoms you're having at this time...can you expand?A week isn't too long to wait for answers.
As well, the scope itself isn't as bad as it seems. The purge is the worst part to me.

Ask your doctor about using OTC Mirilax for your prep.

I just used the Miralax w/Gatorade last week. This was the best one I've tried. Previously I've used the Fleet phospho and Golytely - hated them both!

My mouth is watering(like it does before I vomit)just thinking about the Fleets and that stuff. Blech!

If want a cheer up then go to youtube and search for Billy Connolly talking about his colonoscopy. I posted the link in another thread, but I don't want to spam it all over the boards. That will cheer you up quite a bit. I know the prep can be stressful, but there really is no need to get worked up over it. We've all done it at least once here on the boards and we're all still alive and kicking. It will be over soon enough. Just keep close to the bathroom. The week following your colonoscopy will be the best week ever. Why? Well as anyone else can attest to, you'll feel lighter and more refreshed. Just wait and see. Look ahead to that time....knowing how good you'll feel after. Focus on that.

$200 is the normal out of pocket fee for the first time visit to a GI. I had to pay that once and now each visit is $80. The colonoscopy is going to be more expensive, but you can make arrangements with the hospital to pay it over time. Just talk to the financial department afterwards.
