Well, that will be poo-poo'd by those who may believe that food causes flares, but I've never had it happen.
before I was diagnosed and in pretty bad shape, I was afraid to eat because I had diarrhea all the time....I kept a food diary and was an emotional mess.
Eventually the bleeding started and my "then" doc sent me to a GI....diagnosis found and I had to gain back the almost 20 pounds I lost. I did avoid whole grains and foods that caused me discomfort depending on the time of day, but I took full advantage of adding foods, etc.
Not all foods agree with me, but that's the same with everyone. I was guaranteed by my doc that my flare wouldn't get worse...but I was taking my meds faithfully.
While tapering, going off meds, etc...I eventually found the proper regimen and was given free decision regarding the rectal meds.
I burned the food diaries...they didn't jibe anyway...it made me more crazy and felt like I was trapped.
So, freedom is perceived....I have enough stress, and I eat what I want. Should I eat all I do, probably not based on the common sense of food choices, but basically it's balanced.
I also take probiotics, supplements and Metamucil fibre capsules with breakfast and supper.
So far, doing OK....but did add graduate up to 3 pills from one with each meal...etc.
But, what works for me may not for everyone else....obviously since I'm not a follower of any specific diet.
Hang tough....experiement. It's better to try different things than to believe one thing and feel guilty that you're doing something wrong.
Different kind of control....more to it, methinks than just food.
