Well, it takes 1 - 2 hours for a purgative to work....and that forces you to go....I can't see 15 minutes unless one's stomach was attached to the rectum.

Definitely something to ask my GI about......

Another vote for requesting a pediatric scope and having plenty of medication so you don't wake up during the procedure. From the symptoms you've described, rest assured they're not going to go in there and find nothing. You'll make your condition worse by worrying and working yourself into a state of extreme stress.

Digestion times for food: here's a interesting one. I was flaring last Thanksgiving. Dinner included corn. It was the only corn I ate all last fall. You know how corn passes through mostly undigested - you can see it come out in your poop? Well, I saw kernals of corn in my poop the following day.... PLUS a week later!! Now I'm sure that is impossible but it somehow it happened. I think it just shows how screwed up our system gets when flaring.

Hi...I have some bms showing supper "foodstuff" obviously from the night before, up to 2 days visually in the toilet...but never a week..lol!

Hmmm, best pay attention more. interesting one, ack..

Well, I am anxiously counting down the time now for my scope tuesday and have to say I am TERRIFIED!!! I am wondering if anyone could tell me what the best pain reliever is to use with UC. The pain I have been having particularily during the night and early morning is unbearable to say the least. I have been through two child births and right now I can honestly say I would rather endure the labour pains again than go through the pain this flare-up is causing. I was actually crying like a baby the other night it was so intense and there is no relief from it. I did have some tylenol 3 that wer a month outdated that I took and they really didn't touch it. My husband went to the pharmasist today and asked for the strongest over the counter pain lkiller and he gave me something called lenoltec. It has also not done anything yet to dull the pain. Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

I just read your thing and noticed alot of " That's me" responses. I used to run to the bathroom 20-25 times a day. I ended up in the hospital due to that. I will be praying for the scope on Tuesday. I also noticed that you mentioned that when you drank a tall glass of milk that it went right through you in 15 min. That's happened to me. One time when I ordered a Starbucks drink and ordered the drink with soy, they didn't put that in my drink, it was reg. milk, within minutes after finishing the drink I had to run to the bathroom. Maybe you are lactose intolerant, and you should back off on all the milk products during this flare. You might see a big difference if you do that. Try Lactaid milk, it's pretty good.

Sweetie31105, Thankyou for responding to me. While I hate that you and others have to go through this horrible disease, it does bring me some relief that you know what it's like, so I know I'm not going crazy. I do normally drink Lactaid and soy milk but this one time I really wanted milk, we were out and just had regular and I paid for it after! I also noticed you are allergic to Remicade and cana't take asacol. I too was in a study for Remicade and had reactions to it and was taken off. It really didn't do anything for me except make the trips to the bathroom at tiny bit less frequesnt but not enough to make it worth while taking. I do know for others though that it is a wonder drug and has helped them immensly. As far as Asacol goes, it doesn't do antyhign for me except give me weird rashes all over. I was also in another study drug last fall, it actually started to help with the trips to the bathroom but then I got these sores all over my arms and legs and foreheard that looked like flesh eating bacteris..
I actually have deep scars all over my arms now from it, so of course they took me off right away and I'm now back to square one and very miserable. So I don't know what they are going to do after this scope tuesday except prove to themselves something is definately wrong, but I am starting to feel like a guinea opig and very frusterated....it is not a very fun way to live life and I only hope that when I do finally get better where I can get out of the house and do things like normal people...I can give back and help others with this horrible disease. I am just so thankful there are sites like this one where at least you can vent and compare notes with others that are going through this. It does help at least with that part.

it sure does, maybe you can suggest that since you didn't really respond to the Remicade, maybe you can be put on Humira. If you don't respond to Remicade, Humira is an ok drug to move on to. That's the main reason I'm on Humira.

Well has tje scope yesterday, feeling a little ruff today...sore for the most part and STILL running to the bathroom. The doctor told my husband that I had moderate-sever UC involving the entire large intestine and the bowel. I am confused to the bowel part because I thought they had to go in surgically to see that but guess not. This may be a stupid question but what exactly is moderately-severe when they put it that way. Obviously it's not mild but when the tack the two together i jsut get a little confused as to what they really mean.

The fact that you have UC means it's in your colon or large intestine or large bowel. The doc might have said the large intestine or bowel and your husband misunderstood.

The bowel is either large (colon or intestine) or small (intestine)...so, it could also be that there's some backwash into the small intestine which would be the last part of the ileum.

Are you sure he didn't say cecum and not bowel?

Moderately severe could mean the amount of active inflammation that would encompass the symptoms which would include diarrhea, extreme frequency and of course bleeding with mucus....there could also be deeper ulcerations, meaning that it includes also the sub-mucosal layer.

No, it's not mild at all...

It all depends on what the doc means in a clinical manner of site involvement, mucosal involvement or symptoms.

PLEASE get a copy of the report....the initial findings if you are able but for sure the pathological findings...

Now...what meds did the doc put on on??

     Darla, if you are in extreme discomfort....I know the feeling well, ask your primary doctor for a script for hydrocodone.  It works for me.  I only take it when flaring and cannot stand the pain.  Good luck dear.

To answer your question about the medication he has put me on as of right now...nothing. He wants me to come back in for a follow-up next week and discuss what route we can take but all I know is I need relief and fast. As far as the report goes...do I just ask for a copy and they have to give it to you? I would really like to get one that way I can keep my own file of everything that goes on for future references and any other problems that arise. Apparently there was ulcerations that could be seen on the images my husband was shown plus major inflamation and no vascular pattern. Thanks for your thoughts and I will keep you posted on what he ends up giving me for treatment..

Thankyou for that, I am definately going to write this down and take it with me. Last night  was soso for pain because I think I was still kind of out of it from the sedatives they gave me but today was a bad day. I suspected it would be some discomfort after going in there and proding around . I just would like one nights' good solid sleep with minimal trips to the bathroom....hopefully that will come sooner than later.
