Got really weak, sweating profusely..what is this?

I was standing at work today, started feeling like I was going to pass out....I was leaving, so I got in my car with the air on and drove home....all while sweating profusely...it was running down my face, my shirt was soaked....I got home, felt like crap....ate some watermelon and I am sitting here typing this now... I am tapering pred - slowly... Could this be related to pred taper? Could it be Imuran? It came on very suddenly....I felt a bit dizzy, etc.....???

thats happened to me before.

im not on imuran so i dont know if that is it or not.

my guess would be that its a mix of everything.

meds, UC, taper, just feeling sick in general, loss of blood (if applicable), eating changes, dehydration....

could be a whole heap of things separate or together that just make you feel crap.

i have had bad sweats at night and its winter time here.  freezing.

i think that is the pred. 

sorry im not much more specific help, but i reckon its the whole lot coming down on you and affecting your body.

I think it might be the prednisone too. I've had sweating problems with it, but it was when I was sleeping.

I've had sweating problems too but have not been on prednisone or imuran. It is usually when my stomach is upset. I first feel really hot, then the cramps and sweating start with the excessive bm's.

Uc itself causes extreme fatigue. I have experienced sweating too. Im on 40mg of prednisone and Im sure that causes the sweats. Prednisone sucks. I've been on it for 2 years. Every time I try to reduce the dose my symptoms worsen. I say I don't know which is worse , the uc or the side affects of the prednisone. Imuran made me throw up too much so we switched to 6MP. And colozol. Anyway , I hope that you feel better. Watermelon always makes me feel better!

Pred can affect so many chemical aspects of body functions, including fluid retention or excretion that I wouldn't rule it out as a cause of your latest discomfort. Be sure to keep yourself well-hydrated! If watermelon made you feel better, your potassium level may have dropped too low in recent days. Try eating a banana daily, or avocado, plus other melons or fruit/juices that agree with you. Apple juice is generally tolerable even when flaring & supplies potassium, which is an important body need. Let us know how you're doing. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

The sweating is from the UC. Before I ever took prednisone I had major sweats nightly and woke up soaked in my neck and chest area. This happened for months actually. Thank goodness for mattress protectors! :) But my pillow was disgusting.

 

I felt dizzy many times when on prednisone. There are several side affects associated with this drug. There are tons of posts on here about them. Reading some of them may not make you feel any better but will help with that fear of the unknown. You are not alone!! Hope you feel better soon!

I have had night sweats before, for sure...mostly when I was on 40mg of pred. This one came on suddenly out of nowhere during the day...I felt nauseated, and "weird"... I got in my car with the air running, and just started sweating...it was beading down my face, and my clothes were soaked...very odd...and I felt very odd.... I went home and ate some watermelon and drank water, and took a small nap....felt crappy most of the night but feel better today.

This happened to me once a few weeks ago at night - I woke up, started sweating and was very nauseated - I actually thought I was going to vomit....but didnt...ended up having some D instead.. I thought it was just a bug or possibly anxiety.

I am currently tapering off pred - from 5mg, to 2.5mg, then actually yesterday I only took 1.25mg....so I am wondering if I am tapering too fast and my adrenal glands havent kicked in yet??

It could also be a panic attack. Unfortunately I have a pretty good track record regarding anxiety and panic attacks. Prednisone can cause anxiety and panic and the one time I took it so far (not planning on ever taking it again, but that is a different story), I had a hard time with frequent panic attacks and anxiety. Yeah, Pred made me sweat profusely too.

I have extreme night sweats ever since going past 40mg of Prednisone a day. I wake up soaked

I sweated at night before and gotten sick feeling similar to that, but I wasn't on any drugs at all so with me I am guessing it is the disease. It almost reminds you of your body fighting off a flu bug.

I take only sulfasalazine twice a day along with an iron supplement daily(when I manage to remember) and I don't sweat that profusely, but I can sweat from time to time. Sometimes I can tremble. It's worse for me when I'm shopping for groceries. I don't know why, but by the time I'm about to leave my body temp is way up and I start to shake. Sometimes I feel like I'm going to pass out. My vision begins to dim. Usually I will hit the fruit area first and get some bananas. If I feel like this is about to happen to me then I eat one. There's no way anyone will say something to you if you do. Usually I go near the deli counter or the pharmacy so I can get help if I do pass out. I've told someone working there once that I felt as if I may pass out and stayed around them just to be sure. I don't want to pass out and wake up with EMTs in my face so I say this ahead of time so I can just drive home on my own.

its funny that you asked because i experienced a similar thing today. I was in the shower and got soooo hot and felt like i had no energy and was about to pass out. its def. not the first time i did that either. while it is not a good thing, it is good to know there are others who are experiencing the same thing.

That's funny you say that about the grocery shopping. I get like that, too, and I often feel like I'm so hot and going to pass out in the checkout line by the time I am done.

I have that happen usually one time after I start to flare. I will get really weak and dizzy, start sweating like I just ran a marathon, feel absolutely wiped out, and usually really nauseous. After it passes I feel really, really weird. In a way, it feels good in a "relief" sort of way, but overall it is just weird. I have no better way to describe it, I just lay down and...feel weird for some time.

I also had something similar after I got out of the hospital on my first diagnosis and was healing, but on pred. I basically collapsed. More like no longer had the strength to support my own body and sat down on the floor really fast. I had to sit there on the bathroom floor incredibly weak, sweating profusely, not doing anything for a good 8 minutes. That was a horrible time. I never imagined that at age 20 I would be so weak I more or less fell and couldn't get up.

Both of these types of episodes I can't even imagine driving during. I would be too out of it mentally to do it safely.

I got the sweats big time when I started to taper off Pred, which I've been doing for months now.  The sweating only occurs between 60mg and 40mg.  I also had HUGE dizzy spells about 3 or 4 times a day.  Where I was on the brink of passing out.  I just got used to it.  I'm also on Imuran, but I've been on it for 5 years and never had this problem.  The dizziness all started when I began to taper the pred.  Once I got down to about 10mg, my dizzy spells started to go away.  Right now I'm on 5mg of pred and I get dizzy about once a week, but it's not nearly as strong.

Everyone is different, but my sweating and dizziness are directly related to Prednisone.

I had symptoms of faintness, dizziness, heavy breathing when exercising, and excessive sweating (I usually rarely sweat). I had these symptoms both during my flare and for months afterward. I hadn't been on any Colitis medications. Mostly likely I was experiencing these symptoms due to being anemic from having lost so much blood. The only thing I didn't have was a rapid pulse. In fact, my pulse rate was and still is quite low.

So Yes I too had night sweats when I was flaring and on high doses of Pred. They all but stopped after I finished with the pred. While the sweats were happening I kept a pile of quick dry tee shirts by my bed so I could quickly change into them during the night. I also slept with a hand towel around my neck -- it slowed down the soaking of the tee's so I could sleep longer.

And I always get the look from the cashier like they feel as if they're about to be robbed. If I get the look then I tell them that I haven't been feeling well and that's why I'm sweating. They calm down and tell me some story of people that have passed through or that they're hot too, but it's usually because the heaters are pointed on them at the front of the store.

I'm going to bring this up when I visit my doctor on July 8th. I think subdued is right in that it's probably an anemic reaction.
