Toilet stains

Instead of hijacking Joylu's thread, I'll write my own. I had been on asacol for over 3 years and that whole time the stupid med was staining my toilet purple.
Almost two months ago I stopped the asacol and switched over to colazal. Since I was off the asacol and not going back to it, I told my dad that he could go buy me a new toilet seat and he did. Then today, just for poops and giggles, I lifted the toilet seat up to look and there was some staining!
I know asacol is supposed to be delayed release but the half life of it couldn't be so long that its still in my system after almost two months.
Has anyone had problems with colazal staining their toilet? I know colazal is a 5-ASA and similar to asacol but I had always assumed it was the dye in the asacol staining the toilet, not the medication itself...

I have been on Asacol for 8 years now and I have never had a problem with toilet stains...that couldn't be removed with simple everyday cleaning. Is it possible that it is something else you are prescribed?

I've had a pinkish splash staining under the loo seat since starting asacol, It takes some heavy duty scrubbing to get it off! Unfortunately the loo seat is white so it's really obvious!

I'm cracking up because I just noticed this too! I was going to yell at my housekeeper because I didn't think she was cleaning our toilet seats. I have pink stains all around my toilet seat and have not found a single thing to take them off. I assume it is from the acid in my bm's. I never thought it could be the asacol??? Sounds like you just better put some money in stocks for new toilet seats because if colozal is doing it too, it may just be part of it! Good luck getting rid of your stains!

Hmm it's gonna suck for my college res department then! I have a private room with my own bathroom. Hopefully they have black seats...LOL

I always get this and assumed it is from asacol's active ingredient (the 5-ASA). We just replace our toilet seats every few years. I think we both live in MN so maybe it is something with drug and the water??

Sam...has it not helped to wipe after each time you have a bm?

Mesalamine leaves purple stains, no matter which med it's in, Asacol, Colazal, Lialda, Canasa, Rowesa, been on them all and the toilet gets purple blotches. Plastic seat cleans up best. Leave disinfectant wipes handy and clean the seat once a day, also use flushable toilet bowl cleaner at least every other day and you should be able to keep it fairly presentable with minimal effort.

Haven't found flushable wipes, I use Pledge Multi-Purpose wipes. My husband tends to mess up the mirror and sink, so I once a day I take a wipe, wipe down the mirror, sink and toilet exterior and seat (in that order) and toss the wipe in the trash, then I use Dow flushable touch ups inside the toilet bowl. But every few days I have to use a real toilet brush and toilet cleaner in the bowl cuz it gets too much for the flushable "touch up" pads to handle. I try to keep my biz in one bathroom to minimize the mess as well.

Won't miss this when I finally have the surgery (this winter or next, depending on if I find someone to run my dog grooming business while I recover or not).
