Trip to GI for colonoscopy results

So three weeks ago I had my colonoscopy and 11 biopsies, I also had a very large adenomatous polyp removed which was causing some blockage. I still continue to have the blood and mucous d, spasms, abdominal pain, arthritis, and gas, but even though there was visable swelling and inflammation, the biopsies came back normal, so no UC or Chron's. Very frustrating, that i didn't get a diagnosis, but because the polyp was precancerous, they want to do a scope on me every three years so at least if I continue with these problems, there is a chance of finding something eventually that could lead to a diagnosis.

The GI says IBS which I have been diagnosed with for 14 years. Never had these symptoms and antispasmodics and changes in diet do nothing to relieve my symptoms, the antispasmodic works for an hour or 2 and then I have to take another.

I am so fatigued. I am going to go back to my PCP and have lab work for thyroid, it's been over 15 months since I had it done last and it showed low/normal and the Dr said not enough to warrant drugs, but it may have changed, so worth checking since the fatigue is unbearable lately.

Also decided to do pre and probiotics and the GI said that wouldn't hurt, and suggested a bulk fiber suppliment as well to see if that helped any. *sigh* I feel like the colonoscopy was not a waste since I had the polyp and it was precancerous, I am only 29 so if I had waited, it could have been cancer, I am thankful for that. I will probably keep peeking in on this board at least until I am not bleeding anymore, but I guess I should go to the IBS board.

I joined the wellness center as this polyp has me motivated to lose my extra 45 pounds and get as healthy as possible. It was scary seeing that huge thing in the pictures and know it could have turned into cancer. Now I just need to find the energy to exercise.

I saw a Rheumatologist because of the arthritis and SED rate being high, he told me to diet and lose weight. He did no tests (the ones from my GP were already 6 months old by the time I got in to see him) or even examine me, I drove 4 hours round trip to see him, and that was the first and last time I did that.

have not been to endocrinologist, but may do that if my thyroid is still on the low side.

GI said the symptoms (bleeding, mucous, gas, nausea, indigestion, and d) were from IBS. I will have to call and ask if they checked for microscopic colitis, but I think that the biopsies were for Chron's and Micro. Colitis, they were not expecting to find the polyp, that was a surprise as I have no family history of polyps or cancer, only of Chron's and UC.

He did say the polyp had a very large blood vessel feeding it, which is why it got so large and it had to be clamped after they removed the polyp so that could still be bleeding I guess, but it has been 3 weeks since it was removed. It was located 25 cm (close to 10 inches) into the colon.

How frustrating. Glad they got that poyp removed. (I would love for my GI say they couldn't find any evidence of IBD tho!)

Well, UC can have inflammation and swelling but no ulcerations....right there is a clue that it's not just IBS.

How much imodium are you using?

I have a huge suggestion...when you call the doc's office, also ask for a copy of the colonoscopy pathology report.

Yeah that's what I thought as well. He said slightly swollen and inflamed, so I guess it's not bad, but I still don't feel well. Also a clue is I have lost 10- pounds in the last 2 months. Not complaining, since I have some extra to get rid of, but for 9 years of IBS I never lost weight (was not overweight then either) and then suddenly after my weight gain (pregnant with twins and gained 80 pounds in 7 months), I lost 50 immediately, gained some when I went on pred and need to lose about 40-45 lbs now but have had a lot of trouble getting the weight off despite diet and exercise, then along comes these nice new symptoms and I start losing weight pretty fast without trying to diet and exercise cause I feel like (parden the pun) poop...just seems like more than a coincidence to me.

As needed, 2 in the morning, and one later in the afternoon if I need it, but usually only take it if I am going out, sometimes if it is really bad in the morning, I will take it before work, but it makes me hurt, so I don't take it everyday.

"Odd that your doctor wants you to wait three years before doing another colonoscopy with your history. My GI doctor suggests one every year."

Maybe it is my age? I am only 29 (will be 30 on September 23rd).

I am getting a copy of my records to take back to my PCP and to have in case I need to find a new GI Dr.
