When do you consider it a flare?

Since I started on Remicade, not a single symptom. It's been month since my infusion and the last 2 days I'm going to the bathroom 7 or 8 times a day. No blood, not really diarrhea, just
loose and very gassy plus left sided cramping is back. Wondering if its just because I had pizza the other night and a milkshake yesterday (dairy always kills me during a flare but usually when I'm not flaring I can eat whatever I want). I hope its just something I ate! I just got over a huge flare!

food symptoms are not UC symptoms....but it could be that you had too much fat or lactose....or you are in the early symptoms of a flare plus too much of something you ate.

If you looked back over the past week...what were your symptoms...normal? some constipation? 2 bms daily?

You could consider to take fibre supplements as well...

When do you go for your next Remi treatment?

Are you on any maintenance 5ASA meds at all?

If it continues tomorrow or increases it's something rather than just food...possibly a gastro bug...but you'll know soon enough if it's a flare.

Hope this is just something food-related.

Thanks Quincy. I just had a tiny bit of blood on my last bm. I just stopped 5ASAs because of hair loss, maybe I need to restart or try enemas. I'm not due for Remi until 8/3,
Until 3 days ago everything was normal. I really hope it's just the lactose. I was completely forgetting about my UC!

When the urgency comes back...everything else is manageable besides the urgency!

Shelliesv...definitely use the enemas.

The bleeding could be from a fissure or hemmie if you have either..but if it's flare-related, you had best start some other meds rather than wait for your next remi treatment.

Your hairloss could have been a combo of things, especially if you were on pred.

What 5ASA did you stop and when? Was it cold turkey or tapered?

I consider my body trying to come out of remission when I do 2 bms in the morrning or if I have a bit of mucus or blood. My body wants to come out of remmison during my period, when im stressed or when Im too tired. So far since starting the raw food diet I have only done this a couple of times.Once including today but I am very stressed over work and have been in tears the last couple of days due to harmones. i have had 1 bm at 6 am and 1 at 9 am. I consider my self in a flar when I have lots of D and going to the loo more than 3 times a day, anywhere from 6 to 20

I was on colazol. I have definitely linked my hair loss to 5ASAs; however, Colazol alone had kept my in remission for almost 4 years even though I had bald spots from staying on it! Today was good, only 3 times. I'm hopeful it was just the milk overload the other day. I did not have urgency, just pain, gas, and a little blood last night. I'm very, very hopeful it was just a fluke!

I wonder if they need to schedule your Remicade treatments closer together?

I used to only consider it a flare if I saw blood but the last time I saw blood, there were clear signs beforehand that it was going to get to that point. It started with going to the bathroom more often, the stool was softer and skinner - sometimes D. I had gas and bloating in my stomach, the urgency got really bad really fast! I think I will realize the signs quicker next time.
