Kind of along the lines of my blood topic. How often do you have mucus or blood? bloating or cramps? Is your remission completely without any symptoms? Do you always have a few symptoms, but they are just controlled?

This disease really confuses me. I am not sure what "normal, or acceptable" is.

After having this disease for nearly 2 years I've still yet to discover what remission feels like. All I know for the moment is that the days/times when I've been at my best I haven't been overly tired, been down to 1 or 2 BMs a day without blood, mucous or urgency, and no abdo pain or discomfort.

I haven't been in remission yet (2 years in August). Most of the time I had bleeding (gone for a month now, though). At my best in this time, I'd say I was down to about 5 soft BMs a day. At my worst, I have over 20 a day and mostly diarrhea and mucous. Urgency wasn't a huge issue before, but recently it was bad and now it is somewhat bad. I am not usually in pain all the time except when I have to go. For a long time, I was nauseous all the time and threw up everything I ate or drank, but that would come and go throughout the 2 years (usually a month or two at a time). Right now, I am able to eat. I am tired all the time. When I am at my worst and throwing up a lot, I can't even always leave bed. I spent about 2 months in bed last summer. I get really weak and anemic when I'm at my worst.

I would really like to know what remission is like

Right now I have had 2 infusions of Remicade and am still on Prednisone, and I still go 10-15 times a day

Hi,

I was diagnosed 16 years ago and have been lucky to have experienced remission a few times (usually lasts 6 months). When not in remission I have blood/mucas daily, diarrhea - and on certain days unable to leave the house as I can't move from the bathroom. Pain mild some days, bad others. I can go on like this for a good 6 months before I end up in hospital on steroids and azathioprine. Dehydration is my problem, and why I end up in hospital. With the aza I have had the longest remission (just over 2 years). Last time the flare was different, I was actually sick for 8 days straight, unable to eat and eventually sent to hospital again. I still find the odd couple of days where I feel really sick - so a new symptom, like we don't have enough already, lol!

Get a lot of bloating even when in remission, but no bleeding or cramps. Like I said just the odd couple of sick days so thanking my lucky stars at the moment. Only in remission completely and for the longest period when taking Azathioprine.

I was diagnosed in January and have been in remission (off of pred and no urgency, etc) since May. I'm feeling great! No symptoms at all, really. I mean, my poo is still relatively soft, and gets softer when I eat a lot of fruit or beans or something, but that was normal for me for many years before I got UC. I don't think that turds are supposed to be really hard anyway!

When my kids are in remission, they are totally "normal". Average 1 bm per day, eat what they want - just like any other kid.

Son has flared every summer except summer '08. His flares are anything from 3-12 bms per day of bloody diarrhea and last from a couple of weeks to 13 months being the longest.

My daughter's flares involve more pain than bloody diarrhea. She has flared three times and thankfully all were pretty short lived, but two of them were treated with prednisone. One was just 4 days and went away on it's own.

Both kids now have pancolitis although my son's is predominately left sided and my daughter's right side is worse.

Right now I can't achieve full remission. I have formed stools, but I bleed and get mucus a couple of times a week. It's not that bad, but I could be better.
