Anyone develop cysts? Could this be from the medications?

3-4 years ago I had a pilonidal cyst removed surgically from the rear end region, near the end of the tail bone since this is where that form of cyst occurs. Do these medications (prednisone, humira, etc) put people at higher risk for developing cysts? I'm afraid I may have another, close to the same area... it feels almost like a giant pimple at this point, pretty hard and tender. Hmm, I was planning on going in for surgery for colitis in about 3 weeks too. Could this possibly be another surgery in the making? The last cyst was extremely painful; I thought I had broken my tailbone is was so bad. I guess the best option is to see a doctor about it? Even though it's not in an area I prefer doctors to be poking around at :-/ I'm reading that increased sweat, which prednisone makes me do, is also a hypothesized factor for the development.

I believe this to be true.  I developed the boils and a pilonidal cyst last year after doing the rounds of prednisone from 60mg to zero and back a couple times.  The cyst was lanced by a surgeon and surgery was schedule to basically dig it out.  I was down for about three weeks after the surgery. That was the first three weeks of January, now it gets sore in the late afternoon while sitting all day at my desk.  For the first couple months I wish I would have just just dealt with it when it flared, but now that it has been removed I'm glad I had the surgery.  I had the "closed" type of surgery which brings the risk of it coming back, but the healing time is greatly reduced compared to the "open" method which could take months to heal.  Being on about 10mg of prednisone the day of surgery we tried for the closed type to reduce healing time.  So far so good.  A good website for the pilonidal cyst is http://www.pilonidal.org/forums/index.php.

I think I remember that these infections are related to the disease and not the medications. Why, unknown, I think.

Did you get checked for MRSA? I had some angry pimples, in "warm" areas (panty line, armpit), and tested positive for MRSA. Had to take a strong antibiotic, which of course caused a flare... (it was before I learned about probiotics).
I wonder if using public restrooms so much, as we with UC do, is how I picked up the MRSA.

You really need to see a dermatologist, don't wait.
