Hey everyone!

I decided to be spontaneous and accept a last minute invitation to go to Maui tomorrow for a week. So unlike me to do that, especially with UC. I'm super worried about the 5 hour plane ride there and back. I've been feeling really good on the Lialda, which I've been on for 3 weeks now and am supplementing that with Canasa suppositories. Anyway, I bought adult diapers for the first time ever today and some baby wipes and am packing them for the plane rides just in case. I'm also bringing some immodium and valium to give me peace of mind. So, everyone please send good thoughts my way tomorrow and hopefully I will make it through the plane ride without any accidents or extreme anxiety! Thanks everyone!

Awesome! on the vacation!

As for the plane ride, I've done that, even the day after a colonoscopy! That was when I realized I just needed to get over the bathroom trips. Before long plane rides across country, I try not to eat anything at all before the trip. If it is a later flight, I eat a small meal early in the day. Lots of water to keep my stomach full. If you have to, tell the flight attendant that you need an isle seat. Once I was stuck next to a girl traveling over seas who was knocked out! I ended up crawling over her while she slept- That was not easy. you got to do what you got to do.

Enjoy your trip! I flew to Hawaii 3 years ago with UC. Imodium when needed and seat near the bathrooms helps. Also, if you gotta go - go - even with seat belt sign on. Explain later. Once the flight attendant told me to go back to my seat and I told her either I would go in the bathroom or on the floor where she could clean it up!!
RELAX! That works best! AND - eat very minimal until you are there and only what you KNOW won't bother you. I take crackers with the peanut butter inside to eat occasionally.

LOL, I remember one of the last planes I was on.... was feeling fine. Then over intercom pilot says "Sorry, but our bathrooms are out of order for this trip. I hope you went in the airport." I needed a valium on that trip. Glad I was zombied out on Lomitil, lol.

Thanks for the well wishes, advice, and funny stories! I'm leaving for the airport at 11:30am (in about 3 hours) so I'll be checking this until then.

I'm flying standby with my Aunt and Grandma because my Uncle has seniority through United and we get to fly for free for this trip. Score right! BUT I'll have no say when it comes to my seat and I'm praying I don't get stuck in the middle of the 5 seat group row.

Dr-A I think I would die if the pilot announced the bathrooms are out of order on this five hour flight.

Kops and Liza I'm eating a small breakfast of sourdough toast and tea now at 8:30am and don't get on the plane until 4:30pm so I should be okay. I figured if I don't eat at all I wouldn't get to eat all day and then on the plane ride too and that might be bad.

Great suggestions so far.  I don't eat, take immodium just in case and yes, get an seat by the aisle if possible.  But honestly try to relax, stress will just make it worse.

Hey that sounds awesome! Don't let this stupid disease stop you from going places and having great time! Good luck with the plane ride and remain calm!

That just scared the crap out of me..thanks. lol. I'm going on a cruise on Saturday.. we're flying to Atl and then to Florida. I'm thinking OH GOSH what if that happens to me. I'd be screwed. I am taking vicodin with me tho.

LOL, I was fine till he said that. Then of course my gut started churning and the anxiety kicked in (kinda like when you don't have to go till you see someone go in the bathroom, lol). I just told myself to quit being ridiculous, and went to sleep. I try and sleep while flying. Only time that has happened.

If I was in Dr-A's situation I would remind myself that even if the bathroom was out of order the door to it was probably still working and could provide some privacy while I relieved myself in a trash bag if need be. Hope it was a short flight.

To the OP - have fun in Hawaii! Everyone already listed my advice.

My only other advice would have been that most people hate sitting near the bathroom. So, if you had a window or middle seat up front or mid-plane and offered to swap with the aisle person right next to the toilet I bet they would happily do it. You could tell your aisle companion "I tend to get up a lot so you are forewarned...I don't mind swapping seats." If they say "no I wont the aisle" then don't feel bad making them get up a lot.

crap... literally. This morning I was in the bathroom for two hours straight... and haven't eaten or drank anything..including my meds... i'm so freakin sick. I'm really nauseas etc. I'm supposed to leave for this cruise TODAY. I am SUPPOSED to be packing...instead I feel awful. I don't know how I'm gonna do this?
