Time to take 6MP

Have been on 6MP for 9 days and am really tired.  I take it in the morning and think I may start taking it at night.  Should I take a dose at night on the same day I took a morning dose or wait until the following night?

If you've already taken a full dose in the morning then I wouldn't recommend taking another one on the same day at night, and would wait till tomorrow. When I was on Azathioprine I took it at night.

I started taking 6mp in the morning too and from the recommendations here I started taking it at night. Yes, skip the next mornings dose and take it at night. It really does help the side effects by taking it at night. But you may still have the fatigue until your body gets used to it.

     I'm on 100 mgm of 6MP while tapering my prednisone (now at 30 mgm).  This has been the highest dosage of 6MP since I started taking it over six years ago.  Yes, I experience fatigue.  I take 50 mgm at noon and 50 mgm after dinner.   Still need Ambien to sleep because the prednisone gives me terrible insomnia.  Seeing a chiropractor now too.  After only two visits I notice an improvement in how I feel.  I was very depressed, mood swings from the prednisone.  Yesterday even my husband said my personality was much better, not *****y like I was, and I had more energy.  Looking forward to three more visits to the chiropractor this coming week.  I am starting to see some light at the end of this long dark tunnel.  Still taking Colazal, Cort enemas nightly and Canasa suppository in the a.m. in addition to the 6MP and prednisone.  The chiropractor uses modern techniques to alleviate my anxiety and improve my overall wellness.

Jewelknit, I didn't experience any noticeable side-effects from Azathioprine. I took it at night from the beginning because a lot of other people on the forum had mentioned that their side-effects seemed more manageable when they took it at night.

I am now wishing I could have tolerated 6 MP in high enough dose to do any good.  I always took mine at night - no problems but at high dose - over 50 mg. I get very sick (flu symptoms, etc.).

Christine - glad you are improving.  Using only rectal meds and now off prednisone unfortunately is not working for me - every day getting a little worse with more blood in stool.  Happy no diarrhea or urgency but some left-sided pain.  I feel the Cortifoam is not getting up far enough to really get me into remission.  I don't want to go back on the prednisone but will call doctor next week if this continues.  Over a year messing with this disease and never in remission is way toooo long!

     Sorry to hear that Elaine.  I have been on the prednisone since June 11th now, tapered down to 30 mgm....moon FACE...ugh!!!  Doc hates me on this stuff and I am not overjoyed either.  I am having formed bowel movements, no blood, just a bit of mucus, but I can still feel that inflammation in the rectum, very stubborn.  I am going to keep up with my chiropractic visits as long as my insurance will allow.  Unfortunately, I think they only allow ten visits and I had two already and will go three times this coming week.  Yesterday, I did feel some benefit.  A LOT less stress and anxiousness.

     So far I seem to tolerate the 100 mgm of 6MP.  Thursday I go for an ultrasound of the gall bladder, liver and pancreas.  Seems there was a slight increase in my bilirubin.  The following week I have my other blood studies drawn.  I am very interested to see how far my white count has fallen, hope not too far.

     This disease is lousy, but what disease is good?

Christine - Thursday I had about every blood test there is - including fasting.  Anxious to find out results also.  Today I know what you mean about inflammation in the rectal area - definitely there!  DARN!  We just have to keep fighting I guess.  I see the specialist in Albany in October.  I will have to tell him that no way can I do the rectal meds 3 times a day - I am managing twice.  I feel like if I could stand on my head so it would go up further it would be good!  HEE HEE!
