i am currently looking to switch GI docs and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations. I am in dire straits and really need to find someone that actually gives a darn. Thank you all!

If I was anywhere near NYC, I'd go see Dr. Ronald Hoffman in a heartbeat. I've debated traveling across country to see him, but now that I've been doing so well, I can't justify the expense.

I go see Dr Ullman in Mount Sinai hospital for my Crohn's. Very caring, listens, Good Doctor. Mount Sinai has G.I specialists for Crohn's and Colits.

The doctors at Mount Sinai hospital is at the forefront of UC research. I think you would do well with anyone from Mt Sinai.

Ullmann might be good for Crohn's but he's apparently super-ready to chop out UCers' colons. I wouldn't pick a fanatic when Mt. Sinai has plenty of IBD gastros who are better balanced. Look up the earlier posts on Mt. Sinai where members praise Drs. Steinlauf, Legnani, and others. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

thank you for your responses. I actually did try going to steinluaf I believe but they wouldn't take my insurance and the consulation fee was like 800 bucks. I can't afford that at all. Again, thank you all again.

Alas, that's the problem with 98% of the IBD gastros in NYC. Plus the few who do accept insurance generally hook up with Aetna or Cigna only. You can try looking up the Roberts IBD Center at Weill Cornell in NYC-- because Bosworth & Jacob there accept some insurance. It really is outrageous that people have to suffer with UC itself, then experience so much trouble trying to find a caring, competent gastro who will treat patients on insurance plans. (Not to mention the additional problems with meds!) / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

I think that Dr Charles Gerson --also at Mt Sinai -- takes insurance and is also very good. He and his wife run the Mind-Body Digestive Center. Here's the website:

Another who was recommended on the forum last yr-- Dr. Leon Kavaler. The member picked him because a family member who was a doctor in a different specialty praised him, plus he also accepted insurance. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])
