Red Rash on face - 6MP or Prednisone reaction?

I have developed an itchy, burning red rash on both of my cheeks. I started 50mg of 6MP last Thursday and am tapering the Pred (down to 2.5mg every other day). I left a mssg for my GI, but was wondering if any of you had a similar reaction from either drug?

I'd be more likely to suspect 6MP, since it sounds like you've been on the pred for a while. Of course, I know some people get odd reactions when they taper pred, so that might be it as well.

Have you changed your cleaner, shampoo, laundry detergent, etc lately?

I've had rosacea for a number of years now, and when I last saw my GP she asked me if steroids helped, and that pred is sometimes prescribed for rosacea.

I told her I hadn’t made a connection, but when I recently started an entocort regimen, I took note. It did indeed help, and my rosacea is currently in complete remission. Wish I could say the same for my UC!

When I was on prednisone (years ago), I had rashes on my face and back ... but as I tapered it went away.

I had the red rash that you describe almost immediately when I started 6MP. The rash went away, but since then I have acne/very bumpy skin/zits around my chin and jaw line. Using Noxema products has helped me and still does.

I'm not on pred but I started developing a rash around my mouth, chin and under my nose approximately 1 1/2 years after being on 6mp. I had to get it under control with topical steroids and then I am now containing it with Elidel. If I don't use the Elidel, it comes back and my GP thinks it is from the 6mp. 6mp, if you look at the side effects, can cause rashes.
