So sorry you lost your mom at such a young age Sherry. My sister in law lost hers when she was six years old and still speaks with sadness about it.
Back to the topic though.....We had friends who lived in the country, we were city folk and I loved spending a week or two every summer with my "country friend" who was the same age as I. Not so sure she was happy with me who screamed and ran all the way down the hill when a tick was crawling up my leg or a chicken pecked my hand as I was trying to retrieve an egg from under her. But loved trying to milk the cows, play with all the cats and collie dogs they raised. Amazing what we city people miss. The serenity of the quietness at night too.
As for my friend. She always tells me her most happy memories are of spending time with my family in the city!!! If it weren't for us, she would never have seen the Jersey shore, gone to Hershey Park, played with so many kids in the small park across the street. Her life on the farm was very lonely and she attended a one room school house grades 1 thru 8 until she went to high school.
One thing I didn't enjoy while staying with her family......the OUTHOUSE...ugh. Good thing I didn't have UC then. I would really have been in trouble...lol.
