I got off pred. like 3 weeks ago. I've done really well (solid poops, no blood, etc.) I caught a little bit of a cold and now I'm having diarrhea with blood. I started crying when i saw this. I WAS DOING SO GOOD! My parents said that it's probably a mini flare and that I'll do an enema tonight. All I'm thinking right now is what do they know, they've never had colitis before. I'm feeling really bad and I would like to have some support from someone WITH colitis.
Please reply soon if you know where I'm coming from.

I always feel even ickier when I have a cold. It's like my body can't handle trying to get over a virus and have UC at the same time.
Sounds like doing an enema is probably a good idea. If you're going to take a step backwards it's always better to catch it early.
Just a deep breathe and relax. You'll get through it :)

I agree, go ahead and start on the enemas again. Also, I find that taking vitamin C helps me get over things a little quicker. And from now on, start taking it regularly, or when there are sickies around.

And try hard not to snap at your parents, they sound like they're trying to help ;) But I do agree it's nice to have people with the same problems =p

what enemas...you mean steroid enemas or 5ASA?

You have stepped back a few regarding the healing process. I understand the feeling you have about it, but we all flare again eventually.

How long were you on the prednisone?

Steroid enemas have worked VERY WELL for me. I would start immediately to try and avoid having to go back on Prednisone.

ok, I know where you are coming from. I think part of the upset/depression you feel is because you have NO control over this disease and you never know when it is going to rear its ugly head again (at least that is the way I feel). When this happens to me, I have to take a deep breathe, think about what I have done (or not done) that could contribute to the flare. Am I taking my meds? Am I taking the enemas? If I am doing everything right, then I call the doc and we make a plan. I always feel better when we have a plan. But I do know how you feel and so do a lot of others on here, and it is really hard to deal with the physical mess this diease puts you through, but the emotional part is just as bad and maybe worse and it is overlooked. Hang in there, we are here for you.
