I have the IUD that DOESN'T have horomones in it, and I've been totally satisfied with the results. After giving birth 2 seperate times in just under a year, i figured i'd better get something "permanent" in place! I've had it since 2005 with no issues.
The insertion procedure was a little uncomfortable, but certainly not unbearable. I'd also just had 2 kids, so compared to childbirth, it was a walk in the park!
I still have periods, even though they say you might eventually stop.
The other good thing is that (and I'm sure this varies per insurance), but my insurance company covered the cost of the IUD (roughly $200). Compared to 4 years of paying at least $20/month for the pill, that makes it well-worth it economically!!
The paraguard IUD (without horomones) is good for 10 years, and you can have it removed whenever you want. The version with hormones (i can't remember what it's called...something like Monera or minerva or something.) is good for 5 years at a time.
Anyway...I've had a great xperience with my IUD, and I love the fact that i don't have to remember to take pills, or deal with the horomonal side effects from hormonal BC. The IUD is just always there, doing its thing in its own weird way.
Good Luck!
