Hey Everyone,

I don't know if this has been posted before, but here is a website where you can obtain a free IBD Medical alert Card, stating you may need to use a restroom on an emergency basis. Although Ally's Law isn't in effect everywhere yet (crossing my fingers on that one!) this may be helpful in certain situations where you ABSOLUTELY need to use the restroom on a plane, in a store, etc.

I ordered one today...saw this website on another forum (the website is the foundation for clinical research in IBD).

You can also get one thru the CCFA. The only problem I have with the card is when I have to go, I have to go NOW and trying to find that card in my purse is sometimes not that easy. But now that Ally's law came into effect here in MI, it should make using employee only restrooms easier to access.

They are definitely nice to have in states where that law isn't in effect. Here in MN it is and my GI's office sent me a card stating that I have a disease that make me have to use a bathroom often and that it's a MN law and a civil liability to refuse me.

you know, I was all gung ho to get one of these, 'til I read the card. The part that says "this patient cannot physically "hold it" threw me right off! Eeeuuw... how embarassing! I prefer to do my usual stammer "It's an emergency!". That's always worked for me. Or I just pick the likely back room door & run through, even if it's marked Employees Only. Hey, I'll explain after I've used their facilities!

I know, I thought the "this patient cannon physically hold it" is embarrassing too...but unfortunately that's usually the case! ;)

Mythmoon, I'm not sure if there is something for Canadians...you would think so. I did a quick google search and couldn't find anything. I'll try and look some this afternoon or this weekend.

How do they know you have UC? Can't anyone request the card? Plus, I would imagine that most people who work in a retail store or restaurant don't know what IBD is and wouldn't take the card very seriously.

I could have used this the day I was at the Post Office and they refused to let me use their tiolet. I dropped my packages on the counter and ran out the door. I didn't make it home in time that day.

Hmm I'm not even sure that a government facility WOULD let you use the restroom regardless of the card or the Ally's Law thing. They have the whole terrorist threat to worry about. But I'm so sorry you had to go thru that Joy.

I have had anxiety on going to post office many times for that very reason. I did sign up for one of these.

If you have an iPhone in the health app You can set a medical ID which can be accessed from a lock screen
