I noticed on another forum some very positive testimonials for this, which apparently kills off yeast and bugs and reduces inflammation in the gut. Anyone have any experience with it? I started it today myself, just to see.

I don't, but let us know! I'm into trying the natural things

5 days later it seems something is working. Much much much less bloating and more formed stools, today I only went once! Is it the grapefruit seed extract for 5 days or the Caltrate I have been taking for a month kicking in? Surely Caltrate does not need to kick in.

I doubt it's the caltrate. Anti-fungals can make a big difference, so maybe it is the grapefruit seed extract having a positive effect. I have used oil of oregano for similar reasons and it seems to work well.

Thanks Rio - the GSE I am taking actually has some oil of oregano in it too. I will keep posting my results.

Def keep us posted. I am up for trying things as well. I want to get away from the highly potent meds, but also avoid surgery...caught in the middle.

Good luck with it Mitzo. Oil of oregano might be something worth looking into further for you, since prescript
ion antibiotics seem to trigger your UC. Oil of oregano in heavier doses is used as a natural antibiotic.
Also, if you're taking any probiotics at the moment, try to keep at least 2 hours between taking the GSE/anti-fungal and taking probiotics, so that you're not killing off the probiotics.

Ive tried oregano but not grapefruit seed. Ill try it next time I order from vitacost. I also have tried slippery elm, black walnut and bitters compound with no success. They taste AWFUL.

I am actually not taking anything including probiotics except the GSE 3 times a day and Caltrate with breakfast and lunch only. I stopped taking Pentasa and entocort.

I hope it's okay to post on here. I usually am on the Lyme forum, but was searching for a past post and found this by accident, and would highly reccomend probiotics, especially if on antibiotics. Best if from the health food store and refrigerated. Just take 2 hrs. apart.

The person at the health food store told me that they do not receive the probiotics refridgerated. Isn't that crazy? That's why I started ordering online. Some of the online vendors ship them directly to you wrapped in a cold gel pack. I don't understand why these stores put them in a refridgerator after shipping them hot in a truck. I guess we are supposed to think we are getting better quality product but I don't see how it is the truth. Watch out paying big bucks for probiotics sold cold. Often times they are not shipped cold. Ask before buying but don't assume they will tell you the truth because they are salespeople and their top proiority is making another sale. That's another reason I often buy probiotic teas, they remain refridgerated.

I have not found probiotics helpful even after months of use.

Mitzo, I agree with the others that if you're taking an antibiotic or even a natural antifungal, it's a good idea to take probiotics.
You might need to try a few to find which one works best for you. And also need to make sure you take the correct dosage of probiotic, based on your symptoms, to make it worth your while.
Why have you stopped taking pentasa and entocort?

After 1 full week of the GSE I must declare that things have gotten better daily. I now produce one large fuly formed stool in the morning and that's it. Virtually no bloating or other trouble either. This is after 2-3 years of daily watery D, up to 5 or more episodes.
I have been doing Caltrate twice a day for a full month, and I also recently switched from psyllium husks (about
10 years of daily use) to the powdered form of the psyllium. Something in this combination has worked a real miracle. The downside is that the Caltrate (I think) makes me feel fatigued and disturbs my sleep.
I quit Penasa and Entocort because after 7 years of Pentasa it was certainly not helping, and the Entocort is only for short term use. It worked 4 times over the years but tapering brought the D back each time.

Mitzo, I'd give a plug for the probiotics also. One of the ones my doctor recommended last spring did absolutely nothing for me (PB8) but VSL did, after weeks of use.... the one that has made a noticeable difference quickly is Ultimate Flora Critical Care. So.... not that we want to waste money or have bottles of useless things around the house, but these probiotics are all such different formulations.
I am so excited by your success with the GSE! And interested by your switch of fiber (I've taken the traditional Metamucil for 23 years).... I'm going to think about
all this! Wow! Cheers to you for a good experience to date!!

Mitzo, great to hear that things are much better for you with this combination of supplements. I found psyllium powder to work better than husk too. Keep at it!

InSoFla --
Yes, still on LDN and VSL#3DS. Still feeling mostly very good. Some small amounts of blood now and then, though. So, I'm looking at other things to add to my regimen.
Thanks for asking.

I tried GSE since posting in this thread and I didn't have a good result. I didn't notice feeling any worse but I did have a major flare up while taking the supplement, not due to the supplement but it obviously didn't prevent it from happening.

I added GSE to my regimen about
Can't make a direct correlation, but I've not been more pleased with the "quality" of my BMs in 6months.
Certainly hasn't hurt me yet, so I intend to keep taking it.
