My doc put me on the new Asacol HD (High Dosage).  After 1 month, symptoms that I have not experienced for over a year are starting to emerge.  Anybody else on Asacol HD?

I never heard of this. Is this a new drug? Could you give me a little bit more info on this

Asacol HD is just a stronger pill dosage that recently got approved. It's 800mg of Asacol per pill instead of 400mg.

Asacol has produced a pill that is twice as big as the regular pills with twice the dosage in each pill. You only take 3 pills a day as opposed to 6 pills a day. My Dr. has me taking all 3 pills once each day.

SO Asacol HD is good in results ? i am eating Asacol 400Mg pills from 2 years
plz tell us that Asacol HD good in results or not ?

Adeel it is just a stronger dose in each pill, so you are taking fewer pills in a day. It's not a new drug, and I wouldn't expect it to have different results for those who are on regular Asacol. I have been taking generic Asacaol (Mesacol) in 800mg pills and didn't see any difference from when I was on Mesacol 400mg pills or on Asacol 400mg pills.

The only way it might have a difference is because of increased patient compliance due to not having to take as many pills each day. However, since it still has to be taken more than once per day (as is my understanding), unlike Lialda and Apriso.

Hi i have been on asocol 800mg 4 tabs a day for ages and yes they are a lot bigger but you dont have to take as many i take 2 in the morning and 2 before i go to bed.

BT...what are your newly emerged side effects?

How many are you taking at this time?

How many asacol were you on before switching?

I took 6 (400mg) Asacol once a day for a year. Had a clear colonoscopy in March. Now I'm taking 3 (800 mg) once a day. After one month, I'm starting to have some pain and cramping in my rectal area and lower abdomin.

However, I have been under extreme stress over the last 2 months ending with the death of a close family member, so that might be causing my symptoms.

I take 9 Asacol 400mg a day. Maybe you could increase your dose a bit? Ask your GI.

I was reading through a bunch of old posts about Asacol HD and was wondering what people think about it. Is it controlling your UC? How long have you been on it? Since I just switched to it from Pentasa, I wanted to get some opinions. I'm am taking 3 pills 2x a day. Not sure if this is considered a normal or high dose.

that is the highest dose.
