Going through a flare up

Hi,

after 3 and a half years im going through a flare up. My doctor put me on 30mg pred from between 12 hours of interval and salofalk 4g enemas in the night, and told me to stop taking asacol during this period.

Do you think that i should take asacol or not?

Your doctor told you not to? Why don't you just listen to the doc?

i listen, and stopped the asacol.

I just wanted some more opinions on the subject.

My doctor hasn't had me stop the asacol even when other meds were added, but maybe your doc thinks you've developed a reaction to it. I would call and ask for some clarification, because I find I respond better when I am completely "on board" with the doctor's logic and strategy.

Well, he said that 4g Mesalazina via enema, and 2X a day 30mg de Pred is more than enough at this stage, and i will resume the asacol as soon im feeling better and reduce de pred.

My doc generally has me stop the 5-ASA meds too when I am on prednisone. I don't know why. I always go back on when I am tapering down from the pred. Good luck...it sucks to have a flare.

I haven't heard of stopping asacol when on prednisone, but maybe he is recommending stopping asacol because you are starting 4mg salofalk enemas -- which are mesalamines as well.

Never have stopped the asacol, even when I was using the enemas too. Upped it, in fact.
