Hi,

I have been home a few days and my doing pretty good, I have some discomfort but not severe.  The thing I have noticed with my last two surgeries is that the pain after surgery is less than the pain I have when my rectal ulcer is irritated, yet the doctors refuse to give me anything for that pain.  mad

The surgeon said when he went in to repair rectocele and cystocele that I only needed rectocele repair.  He said that I was the worst case he has seen for my age.  He corrected the rectocele by supporting it with healthy tissue from my understanding.  The pain immediatley after was quite bad but lessened by that night.  I had some trouble urinating after the catheter was removed but I was able to get home the day after surgery.

I have to make sure I do not get constipated at all or lift anything heavy.  So far, the bms are much easier to pass than before surgery and the bulge feels completely gone.  If I can continue to pass bms this easily, I am hopeful that the ulcer will heal.

Hey Princess, glad to hear you are home and the surgery has helped. It's sounds like a tough surgery; yikes the worst for your age. Take care and my good thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Glad to hear from you & hope the procedure ends your problem with persistent rectal ulcer. You really have been a trooper enduring so much with grace & good humor. All best wishes! Let us know what the gastro says when you bring up latest blood test results. That really would be something if you don't have IBD, after all the hassles. Or could it be that Lialda actually is helping you? / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Hi Adrienne, great to hear that your surgery went smoothly, but I agree that it's a bit disconcerting to hear the doc called your condition "the worst for your age"..

Hope you continue to heal (and poo) smoothly!

Keep us updated as to how you're doing.

I'm assuming the no pain-meds is because most of them can cause constipation because they reallllly can slow down the colon, and the doc doesn't want to risk you having that happen. Sucks, however. Could Tylenol maybe take some of the edge off for you?

Thank you all for the replies. I keep trying to figure out what caused me to be the "worst case for a 28 yr old". Was it the constant bms mixed with extreme constipation? Was it caused/worsened by giving birth? (one was 6lbs 9 and other 7lbs 3 so not big). Was it all those times I decided rearrange the furniture before hubby got home? Was it the fact that most the women in my family seem to have weak pelvic floors? Was it Remicade, 6MP, and Humira?

My guess is all of the above and I'll never be certain. But I definitely will leave the furniture moving to my hubby and try my best to keep my bowels regular.

I'm wondering if maybe all these years I have had bad IBS and a messed-up pelvic floor. But why did I have ulcerationS in the left-side of my colon in 1995? Yeesh. I'll ask the GI again during my appt in 2 weeks. The Lialda may be working or may be totally pointless but I'd rather stay on it since it is a much lesser evil.
