For the last couple weeks I've been having quite a bit of mucus and then all the sudden on Monday I was hit with some mega D and cramping and it's been like that since then. I'm not quite sure what's causing all this but I'd rather be safe than sorry. I left a voice mail with his patient coordinator and now I'm just waiting for a call back...grrr! I refuse to believe I'm flaring!!

I know how you feel, I would stay in denial for a while each time, too. Hope! Hope it's something else causing your upset.

I was the same way about 2 weeks ago with starting to flare...didn't want to believe it. Get into the doc and feel better soon! Keep us posted!

I'd be the same way! I'm still trying to get out of my first flare but once I do...I KNOW I'll be sad when I flare again.

I hope it's something else but you might as well get in there and see. Sadly I know it's the nature of this disease to flare on and off.

Well my GI called back and he wants to me try cipro for 10 days. I guess it had worked in the past (I have no memory of it. My whole UC experience is a blur). I'm not entirely sure I want to do this because of the risk of tendon ruptures and all. I'm just not sure what I want to do yet!

Nope! No period soon. I'm not at all stressed out either. Schools under control, social life is under control etc.
I just don't feel right. When I started having problems Monday I had horrible cramping (they were 'white knucklers') and even after I went my abdomen just hurt and ached and I haven't had a colon day like that in years. Sometimes I wish I would see blood (never have, and on one hand I'm thankful...) and I would know for sure its a flare. Everything else is so wishy washy!

I know how you feel about the UC thing being a blur, I kinda have that too.

Good luck! It sucks it came on so suddenly. I hope what's going on with me doesn't turn into that. Feel better soon!

Darn, I was hoping you could blame this pending flare on hormonal surges! Well if this is truly a flare, hopefully it won't stick around long.

We discussed the possibility of you flaring a while back. Remember that it doesn't usually come on suddenly as we think....we just don't recognise the symptoms until they're more obvious.

The while-knucklers are definitely a clincher for me.

Cipro? You don't officially have UC, do you..if I remember this correctly? Is that why the doc prescribed you Cipro?

Hope you feel better soon.  Keep us posted as to how you're doing.  Good to hear school is going well.

no, maybe it was someone else who wasn't officially diagnosed with UC but had symptoms and was treated with UC meds anyway. Some seem hard to diagnose.
Did you have c.diff before?

Cipro isn't usually prescribed for UC unless there's something else going on. Maybe stool samples would be good for you to have done?

q, my doc gave me an Rx for cipro when I was fist diagnosed. He said that a very small percentage of UCers (official UCers) respond to it, and when they do, they respond well and quickly. It sounds like Sam might be one of those.

Nope, I officially have UC. He was very sure of that. And I've never had c. diff. I vaguely remember doing cipro maybe two years ago when I hit a little bump in the road.
