Holding an enema in for 4 hours is still very good, and don't worry if you're not able to do the whole bottle, as it can be tricky getting it all through. After using it for a short while you'll get a better hang of it.
The first 20-30 minutes after inserting you feel it more, and it helps to not move much and let the enema settle down. I stay on my left side for about the first 10 mins and then roll over to the opposite side for the rest of the time.
Also using ky jelly lubricant for the enema makes it a lot easier and quicker to insert.
I think an antibiotic is a quick fix but it doesn't really help for too long as it also gets rid of the good bacteria. Maybe you could consider trying a probiotic as well.
Also if the meds don't work soon for you, and if you're advised to take prednisone....before you try prednisone pills you could try the prednisone foam or pred enema as they are a lot gentler on the system.
I would give the rowasa a bit of time to work before even considering any steroids.
If I roll over, I have to go and have a BM.
