I got approved for Remicade!!!!!

Hello!

  I just found out Friday that my insurance approved me for Remicade and I get to start it next week.. I have to go in on Monday to get the skin TB test, but I've had it before and it was negative so I'm sure I'll be ok and can start my infusion sometime next week! I'm so excited to get ON Remicade and OFF steroids.. I'm just PRAYING that this will finally get me into a good long-lasting remission...  I was so bummed when my insurance denied me for Humira..  Ive been on a Pretty good dose of Prednisone for 4 months now and the side effects are really getting to me...  I'm finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel..  Oh and also I'm still going in for a surgery consult on Monday, just to get information should I ever have to make that decision...  So. things are looking up... FINALLY!!!!

Exciting news! Glad to hear that your insurance is cooperating with your needs. Hope all goes well with your first infusions.

Awesome.. I know how that feels! I'm getting my fourth infusion on Nov.3rd! I couldn't get off prednisone and I felt like I was never gonna get better. Remicade has been a lifesaver.

Thanks everyone!

It's nice to know that the end of the steroid road is almost here.. I haven't felt like myself since July and it will be nice to have the old "Susie" back... lol.. Plus, I can get rid of this pred weight and moon face, moon back and moon stomach... lol..

GLOVE.... have you heard anything yet from your doctor?? I was hoping we could go through this together and compare stories.. lol....

I'll let you know when I get my first infusion date...

And Lonie.. Thanks for the conversation last week... it really helps me feel good about trying Remicade and not being so scared about it... :) :) :)

I'll be keeping my fingers crossed in hopes that Remicade works for you!  I think you are very wise to proceed without that surgical consult too.

Great news Susie! I'm so glad to hear that you were approved; if you have any other questions, don't hesitate to call. Good too that you are seeing the surgeon about a consult...always good to have another plan in your back pocket!

Hey Susiebuddy,

I am still waiting for confirmation from my insurance ...they said they are going to cover it but I am waiting to see what my copay is. I am having the TB test done on wed. I am sure that it will be ok as I had one done about 6 years ago. I will hopefully be getting my infusion sometime close to yours.

How are u feeling right now? I have been better the past few days except I am having some joint pain in my knees.

I am holding steady at 30mg on the pred and can't wait to wean down.

     Good luck Susie.  If you are still on prednisone, you most likely will test negative on the TB patch test.  In the 60's I tested positive before going on a European trip.  I had a chest xray and it turned out negative.  The doctor explained to me that I most likely was exposed to the TB virus at some point in my life.  I had an aunt who died from TB and I was around her occasionally.  I also worked  in a hospital lab, so could have gotten exposed there.

     When I was hospitalized with UC last year, they gave me the skin patch test again and it was negative!  The doctor told me that the prednisone masked the test.  At any rate, my GI's associate told me I was NOT a candidate for Remicade cry .

Congrats. I have my second infusion tomorrow. I am already so much better that I can't wait to see what tomorrow brings. I am sure it will help you as well as it has helped me.
