Remicade...working or not??

I got my first remicade treatment on 9/23 and had no issues with it except feeling run down for a day afterwards. None of my symptoms were gone but I figured it could take another dose or so. I got my 2nd infusion on 10/9 and about 5 days after started having no blood, urgency or mucous. I went and saw my GI on the 15th and told him that my symptoms were gone and I was feeling the best I have in 2 years. So not even a week later, For the last 2 days I am having blood, muscous, urgency, and Left side pain again.

Does this mean the remicade isn't working?? I am a little bummed about this because I had been feeling so good.

Don't give up yet, it can take up to five infusions for it to really be effective. Hopefully it will get better each time.

We almost gave up--5th was the charm and we had to 'up' the dose and the frequency. Started at 5mgs. per kilo @ 12 weeks, and what worked is 10 mgs per kilo at 8 weeks. Some people go only 4-5 weeks between infusions, so play with the dosage before giving up. We have had a remission , so it could be a beautiful next year for you.

You might want to add some help with Rowasa enemas to get over the hump. The Rowasa's in between have helped some folks.

I just had my 14th infusion of Remicade and am close to remission.  I also take 200 mg of Imuran daily and currently take 4 mg of Prednisone.  The Prednisone is a taper from a high of 50 mg.  The Remicade is currently 10 mg per kilo of weight and every 6 weeks.  I have not experienced any side effects from any of the above drugs except weight gain and the styroid face and weight gain.  I forgot I also take 9 mg of Entocort daily.

holy cow monkies bowelsafire... that's a lot of immunosuppressant drugs.. daaang. I'd be terrified.. have you considered surgery?
