I've been taking Lialda which has completely been a huge blessing for my UC. However, I've noticed joint pain in my hips for the last two months and just now thought it might be because of Lialda. Anyone else having joint pains from Lialda as a side effect?

Hi Gleam and welcome to HealingWell. I'm not on Lialda, but I'm going to "bump" this post back to the top so more folks might see it and respond. You might also want to check the Lialda website by clicking the ad above and see if this is one of the side effects for Lialda. And of course, check with your doc and see if there is anything he can do to help alleviate some of the pain.

I was on Lialda for over two years and did not have joint pain or any side effects from it. I do at times have joint pain associated with UC. Joint pain and eye problems can be related to the same autoimmune response that causes UC. My joint pains are mild and usually Tylenol helps me.

I have been on Lialda for about
6-8 months after previously taking Asacol. I have had joint and muscle pains with both. Since some people do not experience it, I am more inclined to attribute to the disease itself rather than the meds. I have noticed that when I am on extra vitamin D and iron supplements, I do feel better. The doctor took me off of them because my last blood test showed most things at normal levels. However, within a few weeks of being off the supplements, I started getting more sore than before. I am currently awaiting another consult with my doc to explain the situation. It may be that I get put on lower doses of the same vitamin D and iron supplements. I also noticed that my hair health took a nosedive once I was off the supplements. This disease makes no sense to me!

I've taken Lialda for a year with no change in joint pain.

Just in the hips, seems more in the left hip almost like a pulled groin although it hasn't been an issue for the last week or two. It's just a mild discomfort pain, nothing I can't live with considering the changed life I'm living on Lialda.

I have had discomfort on both of my hips and knees in the first months since taking Lialda; the discomfort has improved, but it was pretty intense in the first 2-3 months. I am getting checked by my primary care doctor for vitamin D, B12, and inflammatory markers to discard other possibilities. I also read that female UC patients are at higher risk for cervical cancer and sometimes UC symptoms could be masking more serious issues. I am pretty sure the discomfort in my hips is a side effect from Lialda, but can't be careful enough, so going to both my gastroenterologist and ob-gyn for checkups.
