Hello!

I was diagnosed in April 09 with mild to moderate left-sided UC and got better after 3 months of nightly rowasa enemas.  However, I just started having mild flare up symptoms.  My GI started me on the enemas again for 6 weeks and put me on Lialda to keep me in remission.  Has anyone taken Lialda long term to remain in remission?  Does it work?

Also, I cannot believe the cost of Lialda and Rowasa!  My insurance picks up 80 percent, but still it is outrageous!!

I've been on Liald for a little over 2 months as well and I have to say it has been pretty good.  I was on Asacol before Lialda for about a year and Asacol didnt do anything for me.  I still have some bad days but I definitley feel a lot better then I did whe I was on Asacol.

My son has been taking Lialda since June and doing well on it. He took 4 per day when he was flaring and now takes 2 per day in remission.

If you go to Lialda.com and join thier Connect 2 program you get a free month worth. Also, my son's doctor gave us a special card that let us have the Lialda for $25 and just the other day the makers of Lialda sent us a card that allows us to get it for $10 per month until the end of the year (not much left, but every little bit helps).

have been takin lialda for almost a year. Has been working well. Last week or two has noticed some problems. but I am hopin its the weather change and not the drug loosing its effectiveness. Will have to wait and see.

I've been on lialda for about 6 months now. I guess it's not much different for me than Asacol. about the same number of flares. But I do like less pills and once a day, so that reason alone, I prefer it to Asacol.

Hello from Dayton, Ohio! I have been on Lialda for a little over 3 years now and far and away
it is the best thing that has happened to me. I went into remission about 2 months after I
started taking it and haven't had a flare up since. I was diagnosed with UC when I was 26
and coming up on 40 very soon. Funny thing (to me) is that now I tell my doctor I'm
constipated a lot more. Once every other day is better than 15 - 20 times a day.

i have been taking lialda since past 6 months, it took 2 months to get me into remission but after around 4 good months i am having a slight flare up... lets see if its just a minor flare up which goes away or is it there to stay.

Thanks for everyone's replies! I seem to be doing well on it. Only 5 days, but I think I am noticing some hair loss. Anyone else experience this?

Also, my company has switched to a high-deductible insurance plan. I have to pay $2500 deductible before my insurance kicks in. A one month supply is $750. I cannot believe the cost! Does everyone else have really good insurance?

Also, I am 31 and am thinking of having another baby at some point. My doctor says it's safe, but I am wondering if just Rowasa enemas would be safer during pregnancy?

Also, noticing quite a few people are from Ohio! I wonder if the Vitamin D connection is strong. I heard Columbus gets lets days of sunshine than Seattle, WA.

Lived in sunny Arizona when dx....
My Gynecologist/RE/GI all say - lialda & canasa(i think its same as rowasa) are perfectly safe for pregnancy - even we r planning a family & i have made sure it is safe before i even think of having a baby...so dnt worry these r safe & especially rectal medicine as they are not absorbed much.
yes, i did get hair loss problem..but i also have hypothyroid so really dnt know what made them fall... as suggested by members on this forum i have started using Nioxin shampoo & conditioner & i think my hair are becoming a little stronger ... very slight change in 2 months but they say you have to use it for couple of more months to see the change so i am hanging in there.
