I should introduce myself too! I'm also a veteran of UC. I was diagnosed after months of confusion around Christmas of '95, when I was in my mid-20s. Over the years I've used huge amounts of prednisone, and asacol, but I've also enjoyed years of complete remission without any meds or even supplements, so I know it can be done (at least by me, sometimes).
A few years after my dx of UC, I had cervical cancer. Amazingly, I've now been cancer-free for almost 7 years, but because if my history none of the Remicade-like drugs are an option for me. I'm also breastfeeding and plan to have at least one more kiddo, so there are plenty of reasons to keep my treatments natural. Besides, no one wants the long-term effects of steroids, right?
I've been "enjoying" a mild/moderate flare for 2 years or so. Only a few days have been severe, and there have been very quiet times, so I'm basically in the process of sorting out the best alternative treatments for myself, by trial and error.
I'm
open to any questions and/or suggestions! Ironically, thanks to facebook, I found my Jr. High School sweetheart - guess what he does now? He's working a cure for us. Weird, huh?! So here's hoping Derek finds us all a cure soon
