I've been having "stomach" issues for over 3 years. I went to my doctor and he refered me to a GI. She didn't seem very interested in my complaints of intense pain and frequent D (I also have a continuous pain in my sternum on the right side). She felt around my stomach and suggested an endoscopy. Celiac disease was ruled out. I then had a barium x-ray done. Nothing was found. I have intense pain in my whole stomach after I eat a meal, followed by cramping and waiting on the toilet for 20 minutes to have a BM the it would be nothing but D. Sometime the D would start until 8 hours after I have eaten. Other times I would have a BM immediatly after the pain started. I have lost 40 lbs (not complaining) but I have done nothing to lose the weight other than not eating when I'm at work or not eating if I am away from my own home. The GI started me on Dicetel but it didn't really do much for me. The reason that I came across the forum is two weeks ago I had really bad cramping and for two days I was having 10+ BMs a day that were nothing but blood. Bright red blood. I was extremely bloated and the pain in my chest was worse than it had ever been. I went to emergency and they took my blood. It showed that I had elevated white blood cell count. I mentioned to the er doc that my white blood cell count has been on the high side for the last three years (I have had my blood taken over 15 times in the last three years). He order a CT scan for the next day. The scan showed that my colon was inflamed. He suspected UC. He gave me a prescript
ion for Asacol and scheduled me to have a colonoscopy with a surgeon. The Asacol helped immediately, The bloating went down and the pain was lessened. I saw my own doc the next week and got a prescript
ion for more Asacol. He said that he also suspected UC. I went in for the colonoscopy and I recieved the results from the surgeon today. He said that he did not see anything. He said that there was no indication of Crohn's or UC. He said that he had no explanation for my D or my pain. After the trip to the er I started reseaching UC and found this site. I had read so many post and could relate with what other people had described but now I am so confused. I am angry that I was diagnosed with not having UC because now I don't know what else to do. Bad news is better than no news to me at this point, Could it still be UC? Has anyone else been given a clean colonoscopy and later diagnosed with UC? Any input or advise is greatly appreciated as I am pretty much out of ideas and have come to the point that I have lost all hope of finding out what is wrong with me. Thanks for listening to my rant.

Did they take a bioposy? Maybe you have collegenous colitis (aka; microscopic colitis) in which case they wouldn't see the inflammation via scope but instead would have to take samples and check them under a microscope...it's definitely not IBS, there's no bleeding with IBS unless you have a bleeding hemerroid(s), which they would have seen via the scope. Sorry for your frustration but I'd keep pushing until you get a proper DX.

The results of the biopsies showed no abnormalities. I don't know what that means and I didn't think to ask because I was so shocked that he had found nothing wrong with me. He just said that he doesn't know why I'm having problems but then again he is just a surgeon not a GI.

Saw your white cell count is elevated but did you have specific blood and stool testing for IBD? Be advised that with some testing false negative can occur ie sed rate. Hope you feel better soon.

Are you still having diarrhea and bleeding or are you in remission right now? If you are in remission, then your GI might not be able to see anything, especially if your flare with mild or didn't last long. My second flare was quite severe, yet my GI said the flare left no scar tissue. If you aren't in remission, then you need to see another GI if this one isn't willing to try to find out what's wrong with you.
I'm kind of confused as to why your GI prescribed medicine for you without doing a colonoscopy to make a diagnosis. And then you stated that a surgeon did the colonoscopy. Why didn't your GI do the colonoscopy? Or am I misreading your post, and the surgeon is a GI?

The GI that I was seeing just kept putting me off and wanted me to continue taking the Dicetel. She had said that we could try a colonoscopy in the future but one had not been scheduled. The reason the colonscopy was preformed by a surgeon was because it was the quickest way to get one done as suggested by the ER doctor. The bleeding has stopped but I continue to have D several times a day along with pain but it is not as bad as it was a few weeks ago. I have not been back to my GI since June. I don`t care for her. She just feels around my stomach and sends me out the door without any real explanation and doesn`t seem to really care about
what the problem is. She did tell me that she thinks it was IBS but I`m not convinced. After a long night of trying to figure out what to do next, I decided to stop taking the Asacol (surgeon said I didn`t need it anyway), stop taking the Dicetel (which I haven`t taken in a month anyway) and wait to see what happens.

Yes. Bleeding is not a symptom of IBS. It's time to find a new GI.

I ditto getting in to see a new GI.
I would suggest, however, that you get a copy of the colonoscopy pathology report.
Nothing wrong to one may be a red flag to another.

Have you been tested for C Diff? It will give you a lot of the symptoms you are talking about
