I had the same theory as you, & tried the Gas-X approach for a while too. And like you, I couldn't see that it made any difference! While it makes sense, the gas theory, unfortunately I think it's more that the rectum is inflamed, so any pressure at all makes you feel like you need to go. "Normal" people can hold in a fart- most of us can't, & usually it's not just gas that comes out either. I guess I don't have any advice to offer, but I empathize! Been there, done that, did no good for me either.... sucks!!!
