welcome to the forum. 2 things i will say. First, get a book called "The Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin". I think it has a lot of merit and is sooooo much easier to follow than many diets out there. Second, i would strongly reccomend the remicade if you want to avoid surgery. I started it about
a week ago tomorrow. I had what the dr. called very severe colitis throughout my entire colon. The doc basically gave me up for surgery and i even visited the surgeon for a consult friday after starting remi on thursday. I have pretty much been sick with a bad flare for the last year with about
6 weeks of remission during the summer followed by a quick return which did not respond to 60 mg of pred and i wound up losing 30 lbs and having blood transfusions and pretty much in crummy shape. The remicade was like a miracle. Pretty much overnight i had dramatic improvement. I am down to a couple bm's a day now from like 15 2 weeks ago. No pain, urgency and starting to have formed stools especially since starting the maker's diet a couple days ago.....maybe you could give the diet a whirl before beginning remi....based on biblical principles of eating. If you like meat, it is not too hard at all. AS far as worrying about
remi side effects.....if you decide to go that route, don't worry, just trust God and live your life. Worrying about
possible side effects will change nothing. My doc said he has never in his practice had anyone have cancer on any real bad effects from the drug. He said the real risk is those who are on a much higher dose than what colitis patients are on....so relax if you decide to go that way. Like i said, it has given me my life back in only a few short days. Hope you figure out the best path for you. BTW, there are several people here on remi and i have never seen anyone post a bad effect from remi of any lasting significance, though maybe i have missed something.
