Don't you wish there were an easy way to have a quick look-see into the ole' colon?  I mean, I feel great right now, but I'd also like to know how things look in there, just for added peace of mind, I suppose.  That confirmation would be great.  But, I certianly don't want it enough to have a c-scope, or even an s-scope, for that matter!

YES!  I am sure the doctors would like that also.  Maybe sometime in the future. 

Another thing I told the doctor - why can't he rub something on the ulcers in my colon - like an antibiotic or something to heal it - you know, while in there for a scope!  Wouldn't that be nice!!

You know what we need, we need a tricorder like on Star Trek.... you can just wave that thing over your colon and get all the information you need... probably a full image too.

Yes!! Sometimes I look at my stomach and I'm like "how on earth are there actual ulcers in there!?"

Yeah, they should be able to coat it with something that would heal while they're in there, not just scrape on in and out.

     I thought there was a noninvasive colonoscopy....Virtual I think it is called, but you still have to take the prep mad

Yes. But my GI would not hear of it. He said there was no reason to do a colonoscopy while I was in remission. However, in another six years, he recommends getting a colonoscopy every year, because I will be at the 10-year mark. Go figure.

LookingfortheCure: Sometimes I'll get that, but the fact that my butthole hurts when it happens seems to be telling me that it's either fissures, hemmies or chafing.

And 5-ASAs essentially coat and heal the ulcers. Same with omega-3s.

I see most of the replies are funny and positive, and by no means do I want to change that. I think this story is positive in the end. I met a girl last year that I transported to CLeveland CLinic for the j-pouch surgery. But the interesting part is the way she found out she had cancer. At the time she was 30 y/o. She had ulcerative colitis since she was in 4th grade. It was never really under control, and she pretty much ahd chronic inflammation. She had tried every med but the biologics. SHe got married, and had 2 kids. Everything was going well so she wanted to see what her colon looked like healthy. Her insurance company wouldn't pay for the scope so she paid for it on her own. They found stage 2 cancer in her colon. She had no idea that she was sick. It was such a good thing she went forward with the scope because her next scheduled one would have been 3 or more years away. By then that cancer would have been out of control.

She is very healthy now. SHe actually runs marathons and is a school teacher, and lives a very normal life. That colonoscopy was a blessing is disguise. SO I guess you should always follow your gut????

Don't know about you guys but I'm kinda obsessed about what my poop looks like when it comes out. I've crapped in the woods while flaring this summer and I found myself prodding at it with a stick finding all sorts of undigested foods. I knew exactly what meal it was and what digested the best. Goji berries don't digest very well. Anyhoo, too much info I'm sure. And yes, I would love to see what my poor colon looks like especially now since I'm in questionable remission...

Mine best scope looks like scar tissue. Amazing that it still works when it's like that, but I guess it does because I'm pretty healthy otherwise.

I often wish for some kind of handy-dandy view inside the system...especially since I am a lower/left sided UC person. It seems SO CLOSE and I want to know where the darn blood is coming from!

ElaineNY - I think the same thing about rubbing somehting on the uclers. How about some kind of anti-bleeding agent? My wife and I joke that if they could only put a bunch of rubber cement in there, I'd be fine!

Yes. Why don't can't they do colonoscopies so that they view when they go in and dispense medicine--or even beneficial bacteria--on the way out?

You guys are coming up with some good ideas.. I just bet someday they can do exactly what you are all talking about.. as far as dispensing medicines during a colonoscopy or holding a hand held wandlike thing over your body to do a scan of a certain area... Gosh, I wish they could do that now.. I hate prepping! But if I have to go through all that, I'm not settling for a virtual one.. I want those happy drugs you get during the procedure.. !!!! LOL..... I swear, it's like paradise in a little tiny shot, right into the IV.. mmmmmmmmm.. what colonoscopy??? LOL..... :)

I read somewhere there is this pill called the "Ipill". It has a led and camera in a capsule, you ingest it, the Doctor can then release meds to the problem areas.
