 Hi  all,,, Just wondering who had the H1N1 vaccine, while on Remicade, and how did

it go for you.  My son is afraid to get the shot, has been on Remicade for a year, and

doing great.  He is thinking the shot might do more harm then good.  Any advice??

Don't get the shot it will probably make you sick, and doesn't even prevent the flu. Random people are getting sick from it. Do some research on it first at least.

Ive been on Remicade now for 9 months and just recieved the H1N1 vaccine yesturday! So far so good.. no wierd symptoms yet. Just a sore arm! Like your son, I was hesitant at first... But my GI convinced me to get it. I'll keep you posted as to if anything happens... but Im sure it wont. To me, getting the H1N1 flu seems far more scary then getting this shot. Good luck with your son's decision.

The shot is safe. He should not get the nasal spray vaccine while on Remicade.

And yes, do your research. As far as I've been able to find, the reports of people getting sick are anecdotal and unproven. The follow-up on the vaccine has shown no increased incidence of adverse reactions over the regular flu vaccine. Most of the reactions that do occur involve swelling and pain at the injection site, or mild brief fever.

I have had 3 employees with the swine flu. All of them describe it as a bad cold. I never get the flu shot and will not get the H1N1 shot. It's really about personal choice and risks.

Ditto. I've got enough foreign substances floating around my system right now... I don't need another one! So far, even though I've been immune-suppressed for months and I work at a school, I haven't picked up any nasty bugs (knock wood). I'm not tempted by the vaccine.

I fully agree with Judy. I got the H1N1 mist vaccine almost a month ago and was fine, but the mist was ok for me as I'm in remission and not on any immunosuppressants. As for the people I know who have gotten H1N1, one landed in the hospital and the other had such bad body ache/headache from it that he was throwing up.

My GI said definitely get the vaccine but not the nasal. Just too risky with my on and off immune system. It's a controversial topic and I try not to judge those who choose not to but I am going to get the vaccine if it ever becomes available to me. I am also getting my 8 month old daughter vaccinated next Tuesday.

I too like many posters never get the flu shots. This is the first year I got a seasonal flu shot when my. pcp talked me into it. My daugher who has the UC did get the H1N1 vaccine & flu vaccine, my other daughter who did not get either was sick 3 times since September, the last time with (not confirmed) what we think H1N1, then my husband (who rarely gets sick) got it and I have it now. The vaccinated daughter didn't (knock on wood) and I haven't noticed any side effects, but she is non-verbal/Autistic. I wouldn't wish this on her on top of all her other problems

The shot is not a live virus like the nasel mist. I always get the other flu shots with no problem; even on Imuran. I don't even want what feels like a nasty cold at this point.

I am on Remicade and getting ready to start Humira. I just got the H1N1 last night. No problems at all. Not even a sore arm. Everything is fine. My doctor told me I should get it. I am more afraid of not getting it.

Hi Everyone. I work in the Dept of Immunology at the University of Toronto and cannot stress enough to please to your homework. The H1N1 vaccine is not a live virus and will not make you sick. You can have some unpleasant effects as your body starts to mount its reaction to this attenuated (dead) virus. These include slight fever, sore arm and over all feeling crappy for about 24 hours. If anything, those of us that are immuno-deficient will possibly only mount less of reaction and thus feel less effects. The real issue is if you do not get vaccinated and are exposed to the real virus you will have not built up antibodies and due to the fact of being immuno-deficient could become REALLY sick. Please talk to your doctors and believe them...they are not out to lie to you and really are looking out for your best interest and they truely do know what they are talking about.

Not too worried about it. Docs tried to push H1N1, the regular flu vaccine, and pneumovax on me the last appnt. I declined along with rest of my family. Not from a lack of doing my homework either.

I will get it when it becomes available to my "risk group" in this area. I always get the seasonal vaccine.
My son, in remission, got the H1Ni vaccine and didn't even have a sore arm.
