Baby butt paste for butt burn??

So Saturday night I was babysitting my 11 month old niece and my brother instructed me to watch for poopy diapers and apply bourdeaux's buttpaste immediately because she had some nasty diaper rash. After he mentioned buttpaste it got me thinking; has anyone ever used butt paste for butt burn after d? Obviously you don't use it internally but I was wondering if applying it on the surface would do the same thing for UCers as it does for babies.
Even though I'm in remission I still get episodes of acidic d and I'm always looking for some relief! tongue

I'd use it for sure....I used to use the baby zinc diaper cream.
Never tried buttpaste, sounds like the perfect name!
What are the ingredients? I was thinking to get the zinc diaper cream again, but maybe this is an option if it's in Canada???

It for sure has zinc oxide in it. I know its a popular baby shower gift (in Minnesota at least) and I remember my SIL using it on my nephew too.

I used it!!
But be careful... only apply a small amount. Dont like, paste it on. I did, and believe me.. I burnt my butt ridiculously bad! Almost to the point of blistering bad! So yeah, if you are going to use it, use it sparingly!

When my son got awful diaper rash when he started on solids (it's pretty common), the thing that worked best was to apply a layer of Aquaphor then a layer of Desitin (it's just the diaper rash creme we had on hand). We'd been trying just one or the other, and they both helped, but when we did the two in combination, it literally went away overnight.

I used Desiten on a lark some yrs back & found that it helped my butt more than any lotion the gastro had prescribed. It got rid of very pesky irritation within a few days. As I recall, there is both a cream & an ointment & I think the latter worked more effectively. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Having an 11-month old son and making the same connection, I have used several baby products and they seem to work pretty well. I would look for something with both zinc oxide and cod liver oil. Desitin makes one I think.

I've tried Aquaphor before. It sometimes works but I find it works better on my chapped lips than my chapped butt =)

I really think the Aquaphor plus the Desitin was the magic combo. The Aquaphor prevented moisture from causing any further irritation and the Desitin did the healing. Or something....whatever the case, at least it healed him up! Poor little guy was in tears as soon as we'd lay him on the changing table, and he's usually really good about diaper changes.

A & D ointment. Big tube of generic just as good. No use for anything else. Works great on enema tips too.

A & D is also really great for severely dry skin. I used it on my surgical scar and it seemed to help soften it and resolve the last places that were healing.

My GI recommends Desitin, but I find it really messy. Well, they're all messy to some extent --

Right now I'm fighting some perianal candidiasis, the best thing I've found for that is Lotrimin powder. Wash, dry thoroughly, apply.



I hate all the crud that goes with having UC even more than the disease itself, I think.

yep, tried many differnet brands - first on my two children, but also for myself.  The Buttpaste is a really good one - it has a higher concentration of zinc than other brands which helps build a barrier from more moisture hitting the area.  The absolute best one though, is called Triple Paste.  It costs much more than all the others, but is worth it if the area is really raw and blistered.  It has a much higher amount of zinc plus other ingredients than all the other brands.  Its defintely is worth it if the area is bad off.  The other cheaper brands work well for just a little irritation.

Just remember that the anus can absorb medication and zinc for some can have serious side effects. Just cautioning because some people were having side effects from false tooth adhesion paste, which has a high concentration of zinc in it.

I've used my son's diaper rash cream a couple of times. It does help some. I've also used vaseline

Just remembered-- when I 1st joined the forum there was a member named Ledaebel who recommended bag balm! She hasn't posted in a while so I hope she's o.k. I think she lives on a dairy farm. RE Judy2's comment about Desitin being messy, I found it true with the cream-- but the ointment absorbed better. Any solution that's approved for babies is less likely to bother us than adult-formula products, I do believe. / Old Hat (30 yrs with left-sided UC ... [etc.])

Im not sure what this stuff is called i think its like calmasoptine or somethign like that, but you have to get it from the dr. They gave it to me after surgery for my bottom incision when it itched andburned so bad, its for that area and it has soemthign in it that numbs the skin and also helps with the itching and burning. It may only be for after surgery buy yall coudl ask your Gis about it

I've used it before and it works well.  I wouldn't use it every day but its good for when the irritation is really bad.  I probably use Aquafor or just regular hydrocortisone cream for more normal discomfort more often.
