not happy with doctor-change?

I have had diverticulitis for 2 years and dx with ulcerative colitis since this summer.  My doctor seems to have me on the right meds and Rowasa, but doesn't seem to take my questions seriously, ie-Lialda was causing me to lose my hair, his comment, "well, I guess you will go bald" and laughed.  He did change me to Apriso to see if that would ease the hair problem.  He refuses to do blood work before or 3 months after I am on a medication as indicated by the drug information.  He suggested I ask my primary dr. to do it.  That seems outrageous since he prescribed the medication.  He has the infamous "don't question me, I am the doctor" attitude.

I have been thinking of changing to a new gastro.  What is anyones thoughts.

I'd change. One thing I really like about my doctor is that he takes plenty of time at appointments to answer my questions and respects the fact that I've done a lot of research about UC. He does NOT have that attitude you describe your doctor as having.

You pay the doctor, which means in a way he works for you. If his work isn't satisfactory, fire him and hire another. When I made the change, I went in to the GI's office and got copies of my records. Then I took them to the new doctor, and just never went back to the first.

You need to be able to trust your GI, and if you don't, it's time to look elsewhere, IMO.

I had a horrible GI at first. When I went in for an endoscopy, the whole time he was asking the nurses what he should say on his card for a wedding. After it was done he was still talking about. It was so painful I had to do a colonoscopy 2 weeks later. It was then I was diagnosed with UC and he prescribed me rectal meds. After a month of being on rectal meds and it not working very effectively I asked if there was something else I could take. He just said to keep at it. I also asked him what foods should I stay away from, he said in your case you can eat whatever you want as long as it doesn't bother you. I felt I wasn't getting enough from this GI, so I asked to switch and so glad I did.

I would also change. I want to change mine but I just don't know where to go. I'd like to keep going to U of M, but I think I need a referral. My GP is really good, I wonder if she could give me one....

My first doctor was really good, but even if he hadn't moved I would have to stop seeing him as I is a grown up now. I was hormonal and my horse had just died, him and my mom were making fun of me (nice fun of course, that normally wouldn't bother me) so I cried, lol, then he said, "There's something else.... I'm leaving." So I cried again and he hugged me lol

Second doctor sucked, and this one kind of does too.
