Anyone apply for disability

I was only able to get temporary disability, doctor kept extending it on a month by month basis. Hope that helps you.

Crazy Colitis, I have attempted permanent disability, but thankfully I achieved remission. With UC, I have been told that if the UC is treatable and the right meds are found, only temporary disability is allowed. Every case is different though. But... I was on temporary disability for about 6 months and saw my doc every month to see what my status was about work. My doctors office handles disability cases. You have to get a doctors note first. For me, once I get the doctors note, I take it to another office in the building and fill more paper work out. Basically, my doctors office does it all. I'm just not sure if you can get permanent disability, but... like I said everyone's case is different. Plus, I work in child care, and UC flare with Child care doesn't mix. I guess it also depends on the kind of work you are in.

Some of you might be talking about two different things, disability insurance and SSI disability.

For SSI, you can also get help from your member of Congress (staff). Really. Especially if the process seems to stall.

They also don't require people with certain mental disabilities to have lobotomies before they can collect SSDI. I guess Congress isn't comfortable with the government coercing people to have surgery.

For me, personally, I would go nuts sitting around the house on a disability. I feel better when I force myself to work no matter how bad I feel, it takes my mind off my symptoms. I was in a flare for a year and half and missed just one day of work when Imuran left me tossing my cookies all night long and with a headache so severe I could not open my eyes, let alone drive my dog grooming van to my jobs for the day.

Luckily Remicade finally got me close enough to remission for a couple of years, but over that time I came to terms mentally with having the surgery. So when it stopped being effective, I consulted with a surgeon.

I am having my surgery Jan 12, I am lining up plenty of friends to swing by and help keep my mind off not working while I am recovering. Plenty of my clients (the owners, not the dogs!) feel close enough to me after all my years of coming by every four to six weeks to groom their dogs that they want to see me or help me walk my own dogs while I am recovering. So I should have lots of company to keep me occupied. I guess it will be a good life lesson for me to slow down.

I know that a lot of people are adamant about not having surgery, but if surgery can be effective for you it would be well worth considering to avoid going on disability. It would be very difficult and stressful I believe to try to support oneself on that kind of money.
