Hi All new here dignosed with UC today

hows everyone doing?!

I'm doing fine, today i finally got my long awaited colonoscopy..which i had schdueled back in feb of 2008..well got it done and they found colitis..

dont know much about it..I've probably had it for 24 to 27 months, hard to say..many things were going on in my life at that time i was 19 or so..I turned 21 this year in August. I was getting severe stomach aches, and still eating whatever i wanted whenever i wanted, then i just couldnt take it anymore. My doctor said he sent a sample to do a biospy..hes assuming its ulcerative colitis but not sure yet! I'll find out in 6 days.

Well, It all started off with anixety about 2 years ago, I had horrible panic attacks, I'd just be sitting relaxing and them all of sudden things just use to go crazy in my mind, my thoughts were racing, I'd hear things, everything got weird looking, I would get nausated, and start to pass gas, because of how nervous I was getting.

Unfortunately at the same time i was smoking marijuana with my friends quite often, thinking nothing of my anixety. Well sometimes when I'd do that it would worsen my effects, so after about 5 months of doing it, I compelety stopped. I went to my family doctor in January of 2008, telling him I was getting horrible stomach aches, that would sometimes last 2 minutes, to about an hour, with my heart racing, and a flushed face most of the time at night. He had asked me what was going on in my life...at tthe time my parents were fighting daily, I had scary time where I thought i got a girl pregnant, which bothered me day and night, I use to stress on it (ended up she wasnt and since then I dont have sex), my work had laid me off, so i went from working 50 hours a week to doing nothing any it was in January, I live in Michigan and absoutley hate sitting around the house in, and I hate winter.

They did all kinds of tests on me, tests on my gastro. region, and my brain to see if my thoughts were making me feel this way..everything they did came back normal, GI tract, MRI on my brain and stomach, EKG, EEG, Ultrasound..many others..

I was a perfectly healthy person, I was just having panic attacks, he also wanted me to go get a colonoscopy, I didnt really want to just for a stomach ache, I was gonna let them pass and see if they go away, but they sure didn't..

Symptons I was having were very very minor pains below my belly button all across it though from the left to right side, most of the time this happened I would pass a huge amount of gas, sometimes it would affect my left side below my rib cage. Waking up in the morning on some days and taking a huge breathe of air I would feel a sharp pain all over, also when i wake up Id feel an extremetly sharp pain right outside of my anus. During all this I continued to eat whatever I wanted, sometimes my stomach would hurt sometimes it wouldnt. Atleast once or twice a month id have a case of loose stools, never have I had blood in my stools.


jeez sorry for making this so long! but like i said i will get results in now 5 days to see if its ulcerative colitis, I guess he wants to check if its cancerous?? Could i get cancer???

Okay, you're right, I've already had for quite some time now

it looks like i was prescribed a common drug for people who have UC..Asacol EC 400mg.. any symptons in the first few days?

Just thought I'd mention a few of the distinctive differences between UC and crohn's colitis (crohn's disease affecting the colon) so that when you go back to the doc you'll have somewhat of a heads-up idea about IBD differences.

With UC the inflammation is limited to the colon and rectom and is surfaceable (remains on the surface of the intestinal lining), also the inflammation will affect the entire area, but with crohn's (colitis) the colon and rectom may also be affected, the inflammation has a skipped or patchy pattern (healthy tissues in between inflamed) and the inflammation can go deep through the many layers of the intestinal lining.

If you're having issues with D then a good fibre supplement (recommended to me by my GI) is very helpful daily and indefinitely along with a good probiotic, also daily and indefinitely.

I will be finding out in 5 days what is exatcly I have! I dont really have a huge probably with D..maybe once a month, it all depends.

Hi everyone....I too am new to UC! Have been a Lurker here on Healingwell for several weeks. Sucking in as much info as I can. You are all such wonderful support. I was diagnosed with UC at the end of October during a 9day vacation in the hospital! Have had issues on and off for years but thought it was IBS ..The past month was tough but everyday got better. Recently started to taper of Prednisone and was doing fine until I got to 25mg. Then I was back to bleeding, urgency and 10-12 BM per day. GI had me go back to 30mg...we shall see. It is good to know that it seems to be common! My next appointment is on Christmas eve hoping that by then things well have calmed down I can start the dreaded taper again!! Thanks for sharing it really as helped me put this in respective.
